Niche engineering etymology post! In autonomous aviation, controls engineers often use the term “longitudinal control” to describe pitch control. This is weird! The longitudinal (fore-aft) axis is a useful datum for roll rotations or axial fore-aft motion. It is a useless datum for pitch rotation.
