The American people have sent a message loud & clear that they are struggling with the high cost of living. Now, millions are getting hit with skyrocketing health care costs. Today, after months of obstruction, the House finally acted to bring these costs down. The Senate & POTUS must follow suit.

I signed onto a successful discharge petition to force a vote in the House on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits for three years. After months of obstruction, that vote is finally happening this week. Congress must bring down the skyrocketing health care costs.

Since their military strikes in Venezuela, no one in the Trump Administration has been able to explain how this ends. One thing is clear, American taxpayers didn't sign up to “reimburse” oil companies for their cost of business. I joined Brian & Co. on WTIC 1080 to discuss.

The Revolution Wind offshore wind project already cleared an extensive national security review. The project is 85% complete with 58 turbines in the water. Pausing it without any real justification will do nothing but increase energy costs and eliminate good paying jobs for the building trades.

The President’s reckless tariff policies are driving up car prices. The average cost of a new car in Connecticut is now $50,000. I met with the CT Automotive Retailers Association. They shared that 10% of the cost of new cars is from Trump tariffs alone. The American people are paying the price.

Earlier this week, I underwent a long scheduled knee replacement surgery in Hartford. The operation was successful, and I am recovering at home in Connecticut. I am on pace to resume my normal schedule in Washington and the Second District in the new year.

The 2026 defense policy bill boosts submarine production, invests in the industrial base, and ensures the wage improvement for Groton shipbuilders. Glad to complete final passage in the House last week after months of bipartisan work on the Seapower Subcommittee.

Today, Groton shipbuilders officially delivered the future USS IDAHO to the U.S. Navy. This is the second Virginia-class submarine delivered in 2025—proof of the growing momentum for the program thanks to record hiring at the shipyard and huge investments by Congress into the industrial base.

This week, Congress finally did its job by putting basic checks and balances on the President’s agenda.

This year’s defense bill is a win for eastern Connecticut.

I had a great meeting with Senators Grzegorz Schetyna & Tomasz Grodzki from the Polish Delegation during their US visit. We discussed our strong partnership & shared security priorities, especially resisting Putin's illegal invasion. By GDP, Poland spends more on defense than any other NATO member.

I continue to hear from eastern CT residents whose health care costs are skyrocketing because Congress has failed to extend ACA tax credits. In East Hampton, I met with Dr. Domenic Casablanca & physicians at Middlesex Health to discuss the urgent need for Congress to lower health care costs.

The Trump Administration’s choice to cut off SNAP benefits is hitting our neighbors hard. I stopped by the Enfield Food Shelf, St. Vincent de Paul Place in Norwich, & Access Agency’s emergency food distribution site in Willimantic. The teams there are stepping up to meet an influx of need.

Electric Boat is acquiring the Crystal Mall – another expansion to meet the demands of Congress’ and the Navy’s shipbuilding plan. Southeastern CT plays a pivotal role in strengthening America’s national security, now and for years to come.

It’s totally unprecedented for Congress to stop coming to work during a government shutdown. We should be in Washington, talking to each other to end this impasse. Instead, since September 19th, Speaker Mike Johnson has canceled all session days in the House which he has sole power to control.

If Congress doesn’t extend ACA tax credits, a couple in their mid-60s in Hebron with an income of $107k/year will see their premium go up by $39k/year, according to Access Health CT. We can't kick this issue down the road. Notices for these premium increases will out to CT residents THIS MONTH.

I’m deferring my pay for the duration of the government shutdown. If eastern Connecticut’s hardworking servicemembers and federal employees don’t get paid during this unnecessary shutdown, neither will I.

If Congress fails to maintain Affordable Care Act tax credits, health care costs will skyrocket for millions. This is unacceptable & totally preventable! We must extend the ACA tax credits.

Under the Medicaid cuts in the "Big Beautiful Bill", nursing homes know that staffing levels and patient care, which are already under financial stress, will be devastated. I met with Parkway Pavilion Health and Rehab Center in Enfield to discuss the urgent need for Congress to reverse these cuts.

The Revolution Wind project went through 9 years of permitting. The Department of Defense confirmed it has no adverse impact on national security. And now, a federal judge has resoundingly rejected the Trump Admin’s unjustified halt work order. It’s time to let the union workers finish the job.

Australia’s massive commitment to submarine access in the Indo-Pacific for AUKUS allies is proof that AUKUS benefits all 3 nation’s Navies. There should be no doubt that AUKUS shall endure.

It was an honor to celebrate the USS Normandy’s presence at the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival. After 36 years in service, the Normandy is set for decommissioning later this month. Its name is sacred – it honors the sacrifice of over 7,500 GIs who were killed or wounded on D-Day 1944.

With bipartisan support, we successfully blocked a measure that would have further delayed the Revolution Wind offshore wind energy project by requiring the Department of Defense to re-review the project — which has ALREADY been extensively reviewed and vetted by DoD.

Today marks 24 years since the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks. On this solemn day, we honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost and the bravery of first responders who rushed toward danger on the day and in the rescue, recovery, and relief effort.

Exciting to see the progress of the U.S. Coast Guard Museum construction! Great visit with union carpenters who are passionate about this project’s goal to honor the Coast Guard. The first three decks of the museum structure are now framed in steel, with the fourth deck rising up.

The Trump Admin’s unjustifiable halt work order on the Revolution Wind project is going to cause immediate and significant harm. The project is 80% complete! Given the hundreds of jobs on the line and the need for more energy supply to lower Connecticut energy costs, this lawsuit is well founded.

I just signed a discharge petition to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files. Speaker Johnson sent us home for an extremely long recess to avoid this vote. Now, we’re back, and we must delivery the transparency that Americans are asking for.

I had a great visit to Doncasters’ Groton facility, which employs about 210 workers. The aerospace manufacturer recently completed a major facility upgrade, adding 17,000 square feet of space.

Social Security turns 90 today. Americans pay into Social Security over the course of the working lives. Now, the Trump Administration is attacking Social Security and degrading services while giving a tax break to billionaires. Congress must honor the promise made to Americans. Protect our checks!

Steel is in the air at the future National Coast Guard Museum. I stopped by the construction site on the New London waterfront. John Metcalf (USCG Ret.) from the Museum Association updated me on the project. Construction is quickly moving forward with a new huge crane.

Health care services are stretched thin, and the $1 trillion in Medicaid & ACA cuts that President Trump signed into law will create huge new gaps in coverage. In Willimantic, Generations Health is working to close gaps in care with a new mobile health unit.
