I’m deferring my pay for the duration of the government shutdown. If eastern Connecticut’s hardworking servicemembers and federal employees don’t get paid during this unnecessary shutdown, neither will I.

If Congress fails to maintain Affordable Care Act tax credits, health care costs will skyrocket for millions. This is unacceptable & totally preventable! We must extend the ACA tax credits.

Under the Medicaid cuts in the "Big Beautiful Bill", nursing homes know that staffing levels and patient care, which are already under financial stress, will be devastated. I met with Parkway Pavilion Health and Rehab Center in Enfield to discuss the urgent need for Congress to reverse these cuts.

The Revolution Wind project went through 9 years of permitting. The Department of Defense confirmed it has no adverse impact on national security. And now, a federal judge has resoundingly rejected the Trump Admin’s unjustified halt work order. It’s time to let the union workers finish the job.

It was an honor to celebrate the USS Normandy’s presence at the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival. After 36 years in service, the Normandy is set for decommissioning later this month. Its name is sacred – it honors the sacrifice of over 7,500 GIs who were killed or wounded on D-Day 1944.

With bipartisan support, we successfully blocked a measure that would have further delayed the Revolution Wind offshore wind energy project by requiring the Department of Defense to re-review the project — which has ALREADY been extensively reviewed and vetted by DoD.

Today marks 24 years since the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks. On this solemn day, we honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost and the bravery of first responders who rushed toward danger on the day and in the rescue, recovery, and relief effort.

Exciting to see the progress of the U.S. Coast Guard Museum construction! Great visit with union carpenters who are passionate about this project’s goal to honor the Coast Guard. The first three decks of the museum structure are now framed in steel, with the fourth deck rising up.

The Trump Admin’s unjustifiable halt work order on the Revolution Wind project is going to cause immediate and significant harm. The project is 80% complete! Given the hundreds of jobs on the line and the need for more energy supply to lower Connecticut energy costs, this lawsuit is well founded.

I just signed a discharge petition to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files. Speaker Johnson sent us home for an extremely long recess to avoid this vote. Now, we’re back, and we must delivery the transparency that Americans are asking for.

I had a great visit to Doncasters’ Groton facility, which employs about 210 workers. The aerospace manufacturer recently completed a major facility upgrade, adding 17,000 square feet of space.

Social Security turns 90 today. Americans pay into Social Security over the course of the working lives. Now, the Trump Administration is attacking Social Security and degrading services while giving a tax break to billionaires. Congress must honor the promise made to Americans. Protect our checks!

Steel is in the air at the future National Coast Guard Museum. I stopped by the construction site on the New London waterfront. John Metcalf (USCG Ret.) from the Museum Association updated me on the project. Construction is quickly moving forward with a new huge crane.

Health care services are stretched thin, and the $1 trillion in Medicaid & ACA cuts that President Trump signed into law will create huge new gaps in coverage. In Willimantic, Generations Health is working to close gaps in care with a new mobile health unit.

Glad to see Vernon’s senior center expansion project get underway. This is going to bring more programming with more space to stay healthy and active. And it’s made possible by $1.87M in federal funding passed by Congress and allocated to Vernon back in 2021.

In Chaplin, I joined First Selectman Juan Roman and the Public Works team at the ribbon cutting for the fully replaced England Road Bridge – 80% funded by the Infrastructure Law of 2021. Four years after Congress passed the Infrastructure Law, it continues to deliver for eastern CT.

The Israeli Government should stop the stonewalling of the U.N. aid delivery system and put U.N. experienced experts back in control to get help into Gaza ASAP, where famine conditions have set in. Their own military assessment verified the U.N. was effective at providing aid.

Families across eastern CT are feeling the rising cost of food. Trump tariffs are projected to raise consumer costs even higher by over $200/month. From foods we don’t grow in the US to locally grown eastern CT produced with higher input costs, every step of the food supply chain is getting hit.

Speaker Johnson just shut down the House for 6 weeks to avoid a simple vote on a bipartisan bill to release the Epstein files. Left undone: Preventing a shutdown, lowering costs, & securing our national defense. All are more important than protecting Epstein's black book.

Great news. My bill to mandate a single ZIP Code for Scotland has passed the House. Scotland residents face the serious consequences of having six ZIP Codes for a town of less than 1,600 people. It’s an inexcusable man-made issue that screams out for Congress to deliver a commonsense solution.

Last weekend, I stopped by the under-construction CT National Guard Putnam Readiness Center to see its progress. It won’t be long before the new Readiness Center is a reality. This federally funded project will ensure that the Guard returns to the Quiet Corner!

President Trump is trying to force American taxpayers to pay for his luxury Qatari plane. And his administration isn’t even being transparent about the costs! Retrofitting a plane to be Air Force One costs into the BILLIONS. I filed an NDAA amendment to prohibit any funding for Qatar Force One.

PFAS forever chemicals are a serious health risk to our communities. In Preston, farmer and town Selectman Jerry Grabarek has discovered high levels of PFAS in his blood. We met to discuss the long overdue federal response to forever chemical pollution.

We need an all of the above approach to lowering energy costs. I visited solar & battery business Earthlight Tech in Ellington to hear the impact of the partisan GOP budget bill's elimination of clean energy tax credits. This bill will raise household energy costs & threaten 1.75M jobs nationwide.

Even as families across the country are struggling with rising food costs, the partisan GOP budget bill makes huge cuts to food assistance. At Access Agency in Willimantic, the staff described how SNAP cuts & USDA cuts to food banks will increase food insecurity for local seniors & families.

President Trump promised that he would “love & cherish” Medicaid & Medicare. Now, he just signed into law the largest cut to Medicaid in U.S. history in a bill that is so fiscally irresponsible, it will also trigger a $500B cut to Medicare. A flagrant violation of the American people’s trust.

The Senate just passed a 900-page megabill that will kick millions off their health care and force the hospitals we all rely on to close. All to pay for a permanent tax break for the top 1% AND still blow up the deficit by TRILLIONS.

This week, I met with the Connecticut Nurses Association, who earnestly stressed how much health care providers rely on strong federal Medicaid funding. As they bluntly stated, Medicaid pays for nurses. We must stop the massive Medicaid cuts in the misnamed “Big Beautiful Bill”.

Three years ago, the Supreme Court took away women's rights to make their own health care decisions. Now, millions of women live under extreme state abortion bans. Congress must pass the Women's Health Protection Act to restore reproductive rights nationwide.

Four-star Army General David Petraeus' famous 2003 maxim about the Iraq War, "tell me how this ends’" should be at the forefront in the mind of every American, particularly President Trump, who hit Iran with military force without a declaration of war which the Constitution clearly requires.

The cuts to Medicaid in the misnamed "One Big Beautiful Bill" are getting WORSE in the Senate version of the bill. I visited Lawrence + Memorial hospital in New London to hear how these cuts will impact services. 40% of L+M patients are covered by Medicaid.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States on June 19th, 1865. Today, we reflect on the courageous struggle to abolish slavery and look to the work ahead to make “a more perfect union” with freedom and justice for all. Wishing everyone in eastern Connecticut a happy Juneteenth!

At my town halls, people are seriously concerned by health care cuts in the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill". These cuts would take away health care for 15M Americans & put our hospitals in dire financial straits. No wonder hospitals from all across the country are strongly opposed to this bill.

I am deeply saddened by the horrific targeted shootings of Minnesota state lawmakers Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, Senator John Hoffman, and their spouses. Political violence has no place in America. I am praying for them and their families during this heartbreaking time.

I met with a big group of Connecticut homebuilders to discuss how we can continue working together to build more homes in eastern Connecticut. All hardworking people should be able to afford a home, and when we increase supply, costs go down.
