State of the cast iron pan after filling washing off that second round of lye. There’s only a few small spots of seasoning left, easily at a point where a hard scrub with steel wool and bar keeper’s friend will get the rest off.

Cast iron pan coming out of its second round of lye soaking. Nearly all of the old junky seasoning came right off! The bowl at the bottom is vinegar for neutralizing the lye. As always, lye is super dangerous, so heavy gloves, eye protection, and a lot of caution are key!
