So I love that cartoon and game artists are doing their thing! And that dudes are showing hog! But is there ANY Bluesky feed that’s not 98% those three things? No judgement implied, they’re just not what I’m looking for! And they are PERVASIVE and I’ve muted 100s of people for bad-feeling reasons.

The data was indeed super clear that algorithmic was preferred when I was working in this industry. But I think most algorithms suffer from what I call a “no novelty bias”. They figure out what cluster you’re in and show you stuff from ONLY that cluster.

I worked on iOS @ Twitter for 5 years. Whenever we shipped *anything*, everyone hated it, like we’d personally insulted their family or something. It was really disconcerting for awhile, until I realized it’s just how people are, and that being vocal means they *care* about what I’m shipping.

I continue to love the emphasis on human power dynamics in what Bluesky is doing. We, as an industry, are pretty good at building tech. We’re not so good at building systems that have the right emergent behaviors as messy humans start interacting with them and applying weird incentives to them.

I’ve been blown away by the clarity of AOC’s communication on this platform. And I LOVE that she’s backing her assertions up with receipts here!!!

I’ve been REALLY impressed by how fast the bsky team is working and by how transparently they’ve been doing it! Also, I think maybe I’ve been in Big Tech too long. 😄

Let's talk about replies. Right now content here is fun and civil but we've got the same issue here that Twitter had until conversation controls were introduced: anyone can reply to anyone else (generating notifications) and harass them without permission. There's some solutions though...
