Youngest kid (HS freshman) took PSAT in October, just so we could see where his weak spots were, since this is his first IEP. Except there were no weak spots. He crushed it. Yay? But geez, this kid.

Impossible meat only comes in 12oz packs, but pretty much every recipe wants 1lb. Discovered I can finely chop mushrooms/shred a carrot/shred raw cauliflower (depending on the final spice blend) and make up the difference without any complaints from the peanut gallery.

Woohoo! Successfully got my teenager two “new” sets of glasses for $100 by buying used identical frames off eBay and just switching out the lenses. $ spent of scratchproof coating was worth it! He leaves his glasses random places and the frames get warped, but the lenses are pristine!

Leftover comfort food casserole tonight, but because I am a responsible adult, I also roasted some cauliflower.

Sometimes you just need a dinner casserole that is comfort in its purest form: carbs and fat. Vegan chicken tetrazzini with zero healthy modifications other than adding a handful of needed-to-get eaten spinach with the mushrooms.

Neighbor that feeds the community cats asked me for a few cans of food since she was out and couldbt go to the pet food bank again until later this week. I set up a gift Chewy Autoship because dang, she’s on social security and I should have thought about this sooner!

My middle kid’s favorite part of Halloween is giving out candy. So he’s dressing up as the Baba Yaga house and going to roam the neighborhoods, handing out candy instead of waiting here for the few trick or treaters we get. All his idea. He’s so fucking sweet sometimes.

Pomodoro method writing break time! I'm doing my preferred "Just get something on the fucking page" method. It starts with me literally writing "This paragraph should be about <blah>" for all the things I think I need to talk about, and then put in logical order, filling gaps, and link citations

Discovered I can buy used version of my kid‘s glasses frames off eBay for ~$20. His frames take a beating, but the lenses have held up really well, so hopefully I can just have the optometrist swap the lenses into the non-wonky frames.

I had some CSA pears, and needed a home for them. I made this cake/muffins with mango puree (because I had some randomly) instead of applesauce (which i never have). Veganized with margarine and chickpea flour ”eggs.”

May have cried a few tears of relief that Xan appears to have gotten through whatever the hell happened last week. No idea if there’s a darker underlying problem that we’ll have to reckon with eventually, but for right now, she’s eating and happy and sassy. For a 19y/o, I’ll take it!

Turns that salmon “gravy” is apparently great for disguising pills too. While she still rebels against the syringe, she then licks up all the spilled liquid (with the dissolved pills.)

I may have created a monster. Ms. Xan says her wet food must now have this gravy to be acceptable. I drizzle about a teaspoon on each of her many small meals.

with the Cerenia on board, Xan has licked up some wet food slurry, enticed with Friskies salmon gravy as topper. Mmmmm. She also got her thyroid meds and fingers crossed everything stays down.

All hail Cerenia, anti-emetic magic pill for old, ill cats. If nothing else, she’s sleeping comfortably after having been very miserable all day. She walked around constantly, meowing her “I think I’m gonna barf” meow.

Today is possibly cursed. A bunch of transportation snafus meant I got an hour towards Great Falls and had to turn around and come home. And the. I get a call from the laundromat that someone walked away with 30lbs of our clothes.

Old lady cat has deigned to eat kitten kibble from my hand, the first non-force-fed food since Monday. No obvious cause on the diagnostics yesterday. And we can’t do more without sedation again, which isn’t ideal for a 19y/o cat.

Winter CSA started this week, and apparently the farm is growing mutant organic crops? This is a 4lb bunch of celery and those leeks are as long as my arm.

Xan has been dropped off at the veterinary hospital so she can get full bloodwork and all that kind of fun expensive stuff done

Aaaand our 19y/o cat has decided she doesn’t want to eat. After a great semiannual checkup on Friday! What’s up with that Xan?
