I've believed since I was a child that learning to love to read is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Been crawling under, around and in my house all day trying to prepare as much as I can for this predicted winter event (stuffing insulation in holes and around pipes, etc). Ice storms are the worst fears for me. You may remember my suffering in Sept-Oct of '24 when I lost power for around 8 days.

*deep breaths* Trying to hold. I will work again... eventually. *sigh* This is what my condition called 'Luck of the Damned' (LotD) looks like. Sometimes it's big like 2 strangers burning my house down at my house warming supper. More often it's constant small disappointments day after day. (part 1)

Why is it so hard to build wealth as a fine artist? Nine 8oz pots of paint later & close to $350 poorer. Haha... *sigh* I do try to be a responsible creator by using archival materials as much as possible but it really hits the purse. Life's been rough but hope to start creating new work again soon.

This is something I keep around for kinda showing how I draw more representational images. I'm self taught so I don't really know the "rules". I just do what my urge to create directs. I'm sure there are better ways but this is me. *shrugs* Images are from an old film cam & then later scanned.

I fell into a little rabbit hole about teaching people to write a signature. Not necessarily learning fancy calligraphy options. But just a basic signature for everyday rather than ordinary block printing a name.

I keep hearing people online use a word like this: The strange sound made me "weary". Hearing it more and more often. Weary means tired. Wary means cautious or suspcious. Leery also means cautious or suspicious. I think they are accidentally combining "wary" and "leery" when they use "weary".

My current vibe: This is the very first song that I remember hearing as a toddler. One of my brothers, who is 13 years older than me, loved Cat Stevens & he played it for me. He's been gone a few years now but the music remains. My own regret is that I'm not leaving much behind when I go myself.

This is a piece of canvas that I cut and roughly hemmed the edges so that they won't fray about 30 years ago. I fling it down on surfaces when I want to paint. It's a work of Art by itself in that it's a historic artifact of all the things I've created over the years. Canvas of random globs & marks.

Artists are sharing their favorite works of the year right now. And, this year i think i only managed one actual painting (due to new health limitations). So itโs my favorite.๐ซ

Inspecting and repacking the mini-beetles. Poor 'Pindragon' has some damage from a real beetle, so I need to fix that. People told me they loved the larger, very complex 'Sylvan Song' but only that it was too expensive. Then I made the more affordable minis, and everyone quietly disappeared. Lol

While working on fence repairs yesterday, something either bit or stung me. I don't know what 'cause I didn't notice at the time. I only know now because my wrist is itchy-sore & swelling along with a red welt. Pain threshold too high sometimes, & now I just have to watch to see how bad it will get.

This is my life now: at family events including holidays, I sit in a dark side room with closed doors watching movies until my bro-in-law (who has known me since I was 4) eats, goes downstairs & falls asleep in his chair. Then I can sneak in to eat. Because I have demons in me, apparently.

4 film reflections of the decades of my mostly misunderstood life mirrored in the characters Watts (self sacrifice), Janet Livermore (quirkiness), Frances McEllany (thwarted dreams), Renรฉe Michel (isolated secret scholar/artist). What are 4 films that represent your own life journey? Please comment

Found another small stash of dried acrylic paint blobs on a back shelf (the residual amounts that often collect at the bottom of bottles). Watching 'High and Low' (1963) while chipping them up into small pieces for recycled art.

I appreciate Art as a whole. But I am most interested in Contemporary Conceptual, with all its twists & distortions & abstractions & complexities of interpretation. I recognize that most do not agree with me. Most prefer the simple & straightforward. But I like having room for a good brain chew.

Aww! A sweet friend gave me an early b-day prezzie yesterday on our movie day (I share parts of my extensive film collection with her). A huggable cuddly that smells of lavender and can be warmed in the microwave! Thinking about the name now...

The passing of years certainly changes the perspectives of people watching the same film. It seems that a lot of young folk who watch this movie see 'Naruto' in the scene with the running children. Whereas folks like myself see Phan Thแป Kim Phรบc.

I often watch movie reactions in the background while I work because I enjoy seeing how folks respond to the films I love. I do get frustrated when a much older movie has been memed so much that one person in the group has an inkling of a major event, and then casually spoils it for everyone else.

I don't have much myself, but I do try to support my fellow creators in small ways when I can. So I picked up a copy of this book by

. Just finished it and it is a fun addition to my little Samhain collection. As always, ghost doggos and kittahs are the best part!

'The Stepford Wives' (1975) is still terrifying. Trust is gone. All that matters are their looks and obedience. And at the end, each time I watch it, I always wonder... What about all of those Stepford daughters... What is the future for them?

Why do I keep seeing posts about artists, without the least attempt at seeking permission, "fixing" the work of other living artists? Experienced artists used to all understand these basic rules. You don't alter the work of other artists, esp if you didn't consult with them first. (1 of 2 posts)

Brought these home today from the studio space I'm losing. These are handpainted door hangers I created to let my sister's fam know who was in the space each day. "Away/Creating" let them know if I was there or not. "Guests" let them know if someone else was visiting me in the space. (1 of 2 posts)

Regular scissors have really been tearing up my hands while I work my way though decades of cast off material from previous art. So I invested in these squeeze manipulated shears. Much better, though hand muscles are still extremely sore. Still, better than the addition of raw skin in tender spots.

'Divinity Raven' (2015) Just another Spooky Season doodle painting from the past. Not meant to be anything more than playing with some paint and loose scribbling plus random ideas about symbolic imagery. I find it relaxing to create sometimes without worrying so much about the outcome...

Bird Mistress (2005) In the 2000s I doodled a lot of characters that I considered to be part of my Dark Whimsy Series. Money was tight, so I often doodled them on fronts & backs of paper. For a short period pre-2006 I had my own copy of Photoshop & tried teaching myself to use it. (Post 1 of 2)
