#WIPSnips - crystal One of the last remaining fire elementals/salamanders is stuck on a little Scottish island, with no friends, no volcano, and too much water around for him to get to the mainland. If he gets on the ferry, it’ll just burn.

#WIPSnips - direction. In Fae, none of the plants are green - it’s considered an Earth colour. Their fields of grain are primarily blue when close to harvest.

#WIPSnips - special Looks like the only instance of the word in any of my WIPs. This is one of the more recently drafted sections, so still needs work, and probably a lot of context that wouldn’t fit in a post. Enjoy a little frustrated Scots from George though.

#WIPSnips - from the first draft of book 2. A little snippet of Cassie raging about the general callousness of the regular fae towards the “mystic” fae, including a little boy they saved from his burning home.

The portals that exist between Earth and Fae are purple. They’re one of very few pieces of magic that are, with most others being green (Earth) or blue (Fae).

Sorry for the last of posts recently. I’ve been having some health issues and struggling to keep on top of everything. Not sure when I’ll be back at it properly but will try and pop something up every now and then.

Been a bit quiet recently, as I’ve been taking a little break from writing to manage other things. So, to make up for it, here’s page 33 of The Last Changer. I do have a page 334, but almost the whole thing is a massive spoiler for the big plot twist, so you get this instead.

#WIPSnips - Hunt What do vampires do when there’s a limited amount of magic available to sustain that immortality? They institute a practice to control the population. They call this practice the Hunt.

#WIPSnips - hibernation. The only incidence of the word anywhere in my WIP. The creature that haunts Cassie’s dreams might finally get a name, but only if she is able to come up with one that’s acceptable to him.

#WIPSnips - no “salmon” so will have to go with “fish” Context - his “fishy friends”, as Thomas calls them, are the merfolk.

#WIPSnips - difference. Cassie reflects on loss after a fight. For context, in fae, the mystic are both ostracised and exploited for their magic. But when they die, their magic dissipates back into the world, taking the physical attributes with it.

#WIPSnips - practice. A little snip from the start of the as-yet-unnamed first draft of book 3. A little interesting fact about the portals between Fae and Earth. Time does not move at the same rate between the two. Days in Fae could be months on Earth. #amwriting

#WIPSnips - other. Too many to choose from today. Somehow added 5k words to the first draft of Book 3 yesterday, after being stuck with writers block for the past couple of weeks. Though I did adjust a part of the plot that I now need to go back and edit into the Book 2 draft. #amariting

#WIPSnips - no “award” in my WIP, and the only two mentions of “prize” are to do with Nyx (the black panther) and his dinner. There’s a lot of important stuff happening in this scene so was difficult to cut into a nice snip.

#WIPSnips - Event Not much writing getting done on this trip, as I’ve been so busy playing music. First show for the Avenches Tattoo went great, despite the major thunderstorm breaking up the final rehearsals.
