It appears that there are some undocumented housing changes that snuck in with the patch as well as some issues. I really hope they try harder next PTR (which appears to be very soon) to get housing available for testing, might have caught some of these before going live.

Okay, going out on a limb and do something big purely for myself next month. Going to TwitchCon EU. There's a big Minecraft presence and as a fan I thought why not. I really need to challenge myself to do more stuff, BlizzCon is a no-go, so this is the next best thing. Trying to go both days.

Some people may not know this, but the way they did the Darkwell phasing is by putting it below the Sunwell phase and having the entrance teleport you down while the Darkwell phase was active.

There is an interesting pattern of Blizzard reworking/releasing previously unfinished WoW content these last 2 years, while also doing bleeding edge things like housing. It feels like they're cleaning the cutting room floor and wrapping up WoW so far, while also very busy working on the future.

Still no culling/blending, but with instancing and more work on freeing memory, the DX11 port of viewer now outperforms the OpenGL version. Still a bunch of framedrops around (un)loading, but unlike OpenGL, DX11 still has some room to get rid of these by off-loading some stuff to other threads.

Made a DirectX 11 port of the map viewer to see how it compares to the OpenGL version. So far, DX11 is easier to work with than OpenGL and has a lot more room for optimization. Still a while to go to get on the level of the OpenGL viewer (missing culling, instancing, memory freeing), but yay!

Somewhat disappointed "300 new decor coming next week with 12.0.5" seems to still be spreading. The VAST majority are [DNT] items with no sources. Unless there's massive hotfixes/changes in the day 1 build, these aren't becoming available next week, or likely even with the patch.

One thing I've always been curious about is how Blizzard's archivists handle software/digital assets. They seem pretty awesome and outgoing in what they've archived in the physical sense, but surely the digital archiving is an even bigger challenge given Blizzard's size, and well, output of games.

On the recent settlement, regardless of its result, I hope it helped move Blizzards stance on user-generated content a bit more into the green. They care about the game, but that also means they need to understand why projects like that work so well. Hope they take that into account going forward.

First attempt at map selection, getting closer to pushing the repo to the public, need to remove a few hardcoded things first so it doesn't only work on my PC. The amount of unfinished/not implemented things is huge (as you can see), but it is getting to a point where it might be useful to some.

Another entry in the "neat thing I found out while working on a viewer" list. Every WoW map has a single file that contains low-resolution versions of all the textures used on that map. These are used while the full-resolution (and separate) texture files are loaded in. Look great from a distance!

10 hour sleep yesterday, 9 hour sleep today. I don't know if this is scientific but the first few days on antihistamines (specifically cetirizine) not only helps me sleep but also makes it much deeper. Having a lot of trouble waking up, but I'll take it. Hope body doesn't adjust too quickly.

Got a notification someone was unwell an apartment building over, within minutes 3 police cars, an ambulance and 3 fire engines showed up, appears someone got seriously hurt and they had to be lifted down by one of the fire engines. Really hope they turn out okay, can't imagine going through that.

After a lot of 3D math stuff for basic culling and a bunch of optimizations like batched drawing, it now runs slightly better. Still some huge frame drops when new stuff gets loaded in, not sure how to fix that yet given there's only 1 rendering thread, but it is progress nonetheless.

Picked this old project back up to see how far I can push it with the knowledge I've gained since I last touched it. Others will always have this beat, but still. The only optimization right now is a view distance limit. FPS drops to a crawl in Midnight parts of the map. The TODO list is huge.

Blizzard please, I beg, fix some of the faulty nodes on your only CDN in EU or add more providers, this is getting silly.

Looking at the Moon and realizing there's 4 people closer to it than to Earth is kind of a crazy feeling. In my lifetime, hopefully in a few years, I'll also have the even crazier feeling of realizing there are people walking around on it. That's awesome.

I hate it so much when something I work/worked on is used to fuel toxicity in any way. There's a lot of advantages to making tools, collecting data and opening it up for wider audiences, but then I see some troll dunk on gamedevs by tweeting an image of SteamDB player charts at them, and that hurts.

In awe of the environment art winners, especially since they weren't able to do these in-engine. Imagine what cool stuff people could create if given the tools to do so to this detail. Even with the crude and unstable community tools there's been some amazing work already. Maybe one day.

Love seeing hints of new tech show up in WoW but not having enough or really any information to know what it is/does. Not being sarcastic either, it's very fun to speculate about. Reminds me of back when LivingWorld appeared and it ended up being for the birds that fly away when you get close.
