Rothman, a historian at the UofA who studies the American slave trade, said that white women enslaved a higher % of Black women because they wanted workers in the domestic realms that they controlled, laborers who could handle cooking, cleaning, child care, sewing and other household work.

In many Black & Brown communities, multigenerational caregiving isn’t just a norm—it’s a value & a survival strategy. We don’t outsource the care of our elders unless we absolutely have to. We live with our elders. We learn from them. We build lives that stretch across generations out of love. 🧵/1
