Pictured here is a layout sketch by Bob Budiansky along with its final counterpart by Frank Springer for Marvel's Transformers: Headmasters spinoff series. Interesting to see that Kup was considered for the center spot. That could explain the absence of Hot Rod's spoiler. Both from my collection.

POWER OF THE PRIMES EVOLUTION RODIMUS PRIME (2017) I really liked the concept of the Evolution toys from POTP. Like the old G1 Powermaster Optimus Prime, you have a smaller figure that combines with its trailer to form the superbot. Hot Rod here can upgrade and become the torso of Rodimus Prime!

I am happy that I was able to add this specific Transformers trading card to my collection. Some of you know why. 😉

Continuing my coverage of the Transformers trading cards, be advised that the foil packs and blaster packs do not contain the same stock cards. Foil packs have the premium glossy cards. Blaster packs have retro cardboard stock, which is cool, but means they are different series....

Titans Return Brainstorm was originally a Walgreens exclusive, but returned (with some tweaks) in the Wal-Mart Headmasters retro lineup.

For anyone who needs to be reassured, Optimus Prime is indeed an Autobot! Apparently, I lack the body heat to trigger the shield. I needed a candle to do it.

Any guesses if the Reveal the Shield gimmick will unveil Optimus Prime as an Autobot or Decepticon?

I still stand by this. Titan Books' reprints of the Marvel Transformers comics remain the best of the past 40 years. I was disappointed that Skybound's Marvel TF #1 had little improvement over the IDW reprints.

Best Hot Rod ever.

The U.S. RID 2000 series was an odd lineup. It contained imported Car Robots characters, of which some where new and some were G1/G2 reissues. Then RID was expanded with even more reissues from Beast Machines. This odd expansion was later rectified by the creation of the Universe repaint toyline.

The first licensed Transformers holiday ornaments came from Carlton Cards. Optimus Prime's design was taken directly from the first Masterpiece toy. Megatron would come out the next year followed by Bumblebee.

I don't think the editor kept track of which Transformers Universe bios were reprinted throughout the Digest series. For example, Long Haul's Universe bio appears for the second time in this issue. The first time it was used? 34 pages earlier in the same issue!

Whether you open 'em or leave 'em sealed, Robot Heroes may grow a weird fuzz on their surface over time. "Insecticon" here is supposed to be black. It wipes off just fine, but not fixable if still MOSC.

True story: Last night I dreamed that I was at a closeout store and they had stacks of Marvel's TF Universe comics put out. I was going through them to find the ones in best condition. In reality, I wish I had the TPB collecting Universe 1-4 with the new profiles from the main comic. #transformers

SPARK... PYRO... Whatever you call him, this European G2 Obliterator is hard to come by. I got this MISB specimen at a convention a couple decades ago. This is one of the toys most notorious for gold-plastic syndrome which aging alone makes him extremely brittle. #transformers

T-WRECKS was one of the more obscure characters to receive a modern-era update. Both were heroic Maximal repaints of Predacon leader Megatron. In the OTFCC comics, T-Wrecks led a group of Dinobots during the Beast Machines era. #transformers

TRANSFORMERS #24 ORIGINAL COVER ART (1986) I have a collection of original art from the original Marvel TF series, and this is one of the stand-outs! Optimus Prime versus Megatron in a virtual duel to the death! By Herb Trimpe and Vince Colletta

TRANSFORMERS ADVENTURE GAME (1984) This is my board game set from when I was a child. Not sure how it worked. I never actually had anyone who would play it with me, so all the pieces are still there and in great shape. The coolest part is that you get a HUGE look as the iconic TF battle painting.

Back from a week-long vacation. On the way out of town, I finally scored a Hot Wheels Bumblebee... at the local airport of all places! Sure, I had to pay $5 for it (price tag on the back), but at least it is part of the story.

ARMADA WHEELJACK (2003) Armada's Wheeljack is a very sharp and dynamic looking toy, from the yellow/charcoal color scheme to the slashed Autobot insignia that alone gives him a tragic backstory.

MEGA SCF CONVOY (2002) Takara's posable Transformer figurine line (SCF) expanded into a deluxe "action figure" lineup called Mega SCF. These would remain a Japanese exclusive, though a couple decades later, R.E.D. would do something similar. Who do you think got it right?

TITANS RETURN SEASPRAY (2017) Amazingly, Seaspray only has had two toy molds: His original G1 toy and this one. (I do not count the "Generations" one that is Seaspray in name only.) In the Marvel comics, Seaspray was part of Blaster's Autobot resistance on Cybertron against Lord Straxus.

BEAST WARS TRANSMETALS MEGATRON (1997) I preferred the Transmetal look over the original fully organic beasts. While smaller than his original T-Rex form, Transmetal Megatron was impressive. Later repainted as Armada's "Predacon". Be careful when handling! His plastic is very brittle!

G1 REISSUE OPTIMUS PRIME (2018) The original Optimus Prime returns to store shelves, with a little less baggage. He actually looks pretty cool in a package comparable to the other classic Autobot vehicles. The toy was available on and off for a span of a few years at Wal-Mart's online shop.

STUDIO SERIES EXO-SUIT SPIKE WITWICKY (2022) While not the first Spike figure, it is arguably the best. However, he was very difficult to locate in retail stores. I didn't find him until last year when I took a trip to Toronto and spotted him multiple times at various Canadian Toys R Us stores.

ALTERNATORS RUMBLE (2007) At the end of the Transformers Alternators line, Hasbro managed to squeak out two new molds dedicated to the former cassettes: Rumble and (surprisingly his second Alternator) Ravage. So is this fuel for "Rumble is red"...?

CYBERVERSE SOUNDWAVE (2020) I don't have too many figures from the Bumblebee: Cyberverse lineup, but Soundwave caught my eye so I bought him. He's always been a cool model, no matter if he transforms to tape deck, stealth jet or armored vehicle.

TRANSFORMERS MOVIE BARRICADE (2007) To punish and enslave! Definitely one of the best things to come out of the 2007 Michael Bay Transformers movie. Barricade would make further appearances and get additional toys over the years.
