🏗️⚛️ The Illinois House Public Utilities committee passed a bill that will remove the size limit on new nuclear plants in the state. It is one of just 2 states in the country that have such a restriction. Next stop: house floor!

Dorval Carter was allowed to mismanage the agency for years because he promised to secure RLE funding. Now the project has balloooned in costs, is strapping the agency with debt, and is going to hamstring basic maintenance and improvements for years to come

The Chicago New Liberals are proud to join the Illinois Homes for All Coalition to support three crucial housing bills in the Illinois legislature. These bills, all sponsored by Rep. Kam Buckner, make it legal, easier, and cheaper to build housing in Chicago and across the state.

615 units, including 124 affordable units, $2 million in infrastructure improvements, all rejected by Alderman Waguespack because it would be "too dense and too tall.”

Chicago city council just voted to reject a proposal in my ward that would have created 615 new homes next to a Trader Joe’s. They’ve really fucked up this time. Let’s put an end to this madness in Springfield.

These land-use changes would be huge in Chicago. Especially with the budget battle ongoing, this would be a win-win way of generating more tax revenue

The Red Line Extension is expensive (and getting moreso) while service along the existing system remains shoddy. It raises the question of why this was such an organizational focus in the first place

Should every government agency be profit-maximizing? Not necessarily. But they do need a clear mission statement. It focuses the organization and improves accountability. Too many “priorities” mean more process and more ways for leaders to duck responsibility

This is where aldermanic privilege hurts YIMBYism in the city: even pro-development aldermen are unlikely to push for zoning changes that would reduce their power to control development.
