In class today we talked about chairs quite a bit but it was really a conversation about how we think about the world every day. Is a chair still a chair if it's in an art museum on its side? Is it still art if it's taken out of the art museum and placed at a table? #conartinsitu

Banana art and provocation is an interesting thing to learn about. I like the activity of taking bananas and looking at several popular works that use them as the subject. Trying to find the similar themes and differences in their meanings is cool. #conartinsitu

Starting in the Australian indigenous art section today. Was wanting to sit with a piece today but I still feel like there’s so much more to see. This reminds me of a birch forest with lots of different bark textures. #conartinsitu

H line took a wrong turn on the way to the museum. Had to exit at this stop and was reminded that each stop has some art! These footballs are neat, if I was a youngin on the way to the football game I would be jumping all over them. Also like how they are a little haphazard #conartinsitu

how rapidly do the meanings in a work reveal themselves to you? This really depends on the piece I feel like. Sometimes they quickly reveal their meaning and then don't develop much. Sometimes they don't mean anything at first then I slowly develop meaning. And everything in between... #conartinsitu

At the Denver Art Museum today! I started on the 4th floor and have been walking around for about 15 minutes now. First of all, holy cow there is a lot of art here. There are probably more pieces on this floor alone than in the entire MCA. Enjoying this newness #conartinsitu

This is the work I’ll be focusing on today. I haven’t read about it yet but I know it’s by Ana Maria Hernando, the same artist I did my skeets about last week. I’m finding that I enjoy her work the most out of the artists at mca right now. #conartinsitu

Being naive about our art responses in the beginning feels like a natural starting point for us when we first write about art. I personally had a hard time actually critiquing the art because anything I didn't like or didn't connect with I thought I just didn't understand #conartinsitu

The Williams reading from this week had me looking back through my own skeets to see if I was using nonspecific language that looked good but didn’t really actually mean anything. It’s easy to get caught up in the fact that we are “art writing” and try to use impressive language #conartinsitu

Today I decided to sit with this piece from Ana Maria Hernando’s, “Seguir Cantando” or “Keep Singing”. This one caught my eye the first time we came to the MCA and I’m excited to come back to it. #excited #conartinsitu

Collins' "Beautiful Dreamer" work uses yellowed paper with printed songs/lyrics and then graphite smudging overlaid onto the prints. I think the use of the old looking, yellowed, rough edged paper really sets the tone for the piece. It fits the old timey music and messy graphite well. #conartinsitu

The Williams book reading has made me think more about how I approach art-writing in this class. It was interesting to learn how proper art-writing is almost like scientific writing. You first address the piece, go through the interpretation process, then the "so what?" #conartinsitu

These ones immediately struck me when I walked into the room. I love that they are both uniform and varying in different ways. It’s interesting how they are both messy and uniform at the same time. #conartinsitu

This one immediately made me think of politics in America right now. All of the words are messed up except two quotes talking about two sides being equally offended and sharing the blame. Definitely applicable to the two party system and how each party constantly blaming the other. #conartinsitu

"contemporary" is defined as, "belonging to or occurring in the present". I think this definition places too much constraint on what is contemporary art. While contemporary art may be made in the present, it often pertains to the past in subject, material, meaning, etc. #conartinsitu

Watched this for a while. Just an endless clip of riding the bus. Made me feel melancholy and a bit sad. Idk why #conartinsitu

Got this sauce at McDonald’s the other day. Reminded me of the gyoza wall and how this would probably be a cool color dumpling but looks extremely unappetizing as a sauce. #imgood #conartinsitu

I like the choice of dumplings for this colorful food wall. There are some foods that would definitely not look as nice. Imagine if it was earth tone pizza or something. Makes me think about how some cultures value food presentation far more than others. #conartinsitu

One of my favorites in the whole museum. The room itself was chaotic and confusing when you walked in but once you sat down and put on the headphones it became tranquil and pleasant. The combination of language, video, text, music, etc just makes it a real experience. #conartinsitu

My favorite of the ones hung in this hallway. Love the use of translucent material to layer patterns and textures. #conartinsitu

This piece really caught me. I would like to wear a fit like this it’s hard. The small pictures of the artists family and life integrated throughout the body made me think abour how we are a product of our pasts and made of our memories. #conartinsitu

Deep layered colors, satisfying textures, dramatic scale. I mean… this is just awesome. #conartinsitu

Yet another one I’d like to return to. Really appreciate the simplicity of this one. Using the color of the canvas and simple shapes to make a beautiful piece. Less is more. #conartinsitu

Really enjoyed this piece. I like that it is actually many pieces that the artist had to bring in and set on the wall individually. Reminds me that art often uses its space and surroundings making them part of the art too. #conartinsitu

Found this bucket around a corner on the roof of the art museum. It was odd to see such an ordinary object in an art museum of such spectacles. Funny how this bucket being at the art museum made it into a piece of art of its own. #conartinsitu

This piece really caught my eye. Not only is it seemingly floating and defying physics, it also has a speaker right where it would usually receive audio. The hairy wire coming out of the back looks like a ponytail which was pretty weird. #conartinsitu

What is engagement with art? Engagement with art is approaching anything with an open mind and a goal to appreciate and feel not to critique and compare. #ConArtInSitu
