1/ Tabling Event at a dance competition (don’t have to 💃) LEAP has a table reserved at the blow event; this is another good opportunity for locals to step in to advocate for Lucy. Needed Volunteers for a four hour shift (anytime between 3:00 & 11:00) to be at the LEAP table.

Confinement indoors can also be a significant factor to foot problems for #Lucy (through extended exposure to unnatural substrates), circulatory issues and obesity. Cold temperatures also exacerbate arthritis and may be contributing to Lucy's undiagnosed respiratory condition. #RetireLucy

Lucy in Edmonton Valley Zoo is the northernmost elephant in North America. The cold climate in Edmonton is harmful to Lucy & is contributing to her zoo induced conditions. Lucy is forced to stay indoors for prolonged periods of time due to low & freezing temperatures.

#Lucy's enclosure is tiny and barren. It lacks anything resembling an elephant's natural habitat. It is less than a half acre which is not enough space to allow her adequate exercise. There are only painted trees in her concrete enclosure, Lucy has never had a place to swim or to have a mud bath.

Info: In 2007, Lucy’s companion Samantha, after 18 years of bonding, was sent away on a long-term breeding loan and has never returned. Lucy has remained alone ever since. #RetireLucy #SanctuaryHeals 💜

In 1989, in lieu of Lucy having a calf, Samantha, a 1 year old female African 🐘, captured in Zimbabwe, was brought in for Lucy to mother. They are different species but small zoos at the time liked to have one of each species, even though their behaviour and temperaments are totally different.
