Writing for this lil project is one of the highlights of my year. It's fun designing and building the thing for everyone to share their thoughts but I love sneaking my own in there. This year I've thought a lot about what it means to be a man and to be strong – physically and t'otherwise. Innit.

What we do (as teams delivering services) should be boring. People should be expecting what we're going to do and how we're going to do it. Because we've told them. And told them. And told them. If they're not sick of hearing about it, you aren't talking about it enough.

Last week, at @sdingov.bsky.social my brilliant Sport England colleagues @casseroleburgers.bsky.social and @simonpang.bsky.social gave a talk called Beware of the Team Doughnut 🍩 It's about the importance of team shape and why – when we didn't get that right – it was detrimental to our delivery.

Not enough people talk about that bit in a project where everyone is so tired of not delivering that they're bristly and nailbitey. Like, it already looks like a "t", why does it need to be crossed? But you know it needs to be crossed because we have to dot the "i's" and cross those pesky "t's"
