An unhinged journey into the mind of Yorgos Lanthimos, Bugonia points a finger at us all. The corporate insistence that we all leave early but ‘only if we have nothing else to do’ and the unforgettable ‘get some rest’ but not till you’ve finished tasks one, two and three. Bugonia forces us to reflect on not only our thoughts and lifestyles but on our species and our world. What matters? Does anything matter? A darkly crafted comedic thriller that pushes the absurd to the limit at times, in the best possible way. The script shines and the performances are, as expected, perfection. Bugonia begins as an approachable and accessible film which descends into… something else with an unforgettable final act that reminds us how futile life really is.
