Hello friends! What’s everyone been up to? I’ve been busy studying soil science so I haven’t been on much. I also got a new job working on a boat! Here are a couple photos of my recent visit to the east side of Oahu. It’s such a beautiful place! I hope you all are doing well!

I recently requested this ocean literacy handbook from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) by email. They sent it to me right away! I’m excited to dive in and learn more to become an ocean literate advocate! Thank you NOAA!

Human to human transmission hasn’t occurred yet, but if more and more people get infected with bird flu, the more likely human to human transmission will occur. The virus has entered and mutated in a Louisiana man. Stay safe everyone!

I’m looking for scientists to interview for a book I’m working on. If you’re a scientist, please hit me up and we can arrange a chat. If you’re not a scientist, please share this far and wide. ❤️

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the rapid advancement of A.I. and the risks it poses. Superintelligence could become uncontrollable, A.I. labs face security threats, and the race to be first might push safety aside. Are we truly prepared for the societal and impact this technology could have?

Finished some homework and now doing some reading. Big thanks to Michal for suggesting a great book and sending me the first few chapters of it. Here’s a photo of where I spend much of my days becoming the best I can be! (When I’m not out at the beach or mountains 😉)

My summary based on todays findings of H5N1 mutational propensity for human-to-human (h2h) transmission. Still no confirmed h2h transmission, but evolution might be changing that very soon. And we are giving H5N1 plenty of evolutionary fuel. 🧪🛟

H5N1 Avian Bird Flu is not Human-to-Human Transmissible - Yet (12/5/24)
Some groups are reporting h2h transmission in humans is low - this is wrong (it has not been confirmed).

An outrigger canoe at Nānākuli Beach, where paddlers move as one. The rhythm of their strokes mirrors the connection between culture, teamwork, and the ocean. Such a timeless reminder of how we’re stronger together.

Cicero's outspoken opposition to Mark Antony after Julius Caesar's assassination ultimately led to his downfall. Antony declared him an enemy of the state, and Cicero was executed in 43 BCE. Even in death, he symbolized the fight for free speech and the rule of law.

Captured this image at Pearl Harbor on Ford Island in Hawaii. That rusted circle is one of the gun turrets of the USS Arizona, which still rests beneath the harbor after being sunk in the attack on Dec 7, 1941.

We're all joking & dunking on this ridiculous tariff idea but if implemented it will make food, energy, housing, & cars more expensive for American households and it will no kidding be really bad, especially for low-income families who could just use some breathing room to get ahead instead of this.

A live gopher snake was recently found in Hilo after hitchhiking on Christmas trees and I got to see it today! If you see a snake in Hawaii, report it: (808) 643-PEST (7378). They are illegal here.

Spotted this black sea cucumber (Holothuria atra) at Waikiki! These harmless creatures are the ocean’s vacuum cleaners, filtering sand and keeping reefs healthy. They also have an interesting squirt mechanism 💦

1: I love research! Science is the coolest. We get to look at our world, ask questions, and constantly learn new things. That moment when you look at your data and realize you know something that no one else knows yet is just so awesome! I'll never get tired of asking questions.
