my plan is to try to vlog at least a week of making my album, then maybe 1-2 weeks later, follow up on the stuff i brought up in the vlog previously. my eye problems make things harder though. if my eyes still have too much trouble handling it, i guess i'll have to abruptly stop.

i think my upcoming album is somewhere around 60% done. the songwriting is almost complete, so a lot of the work left is in recording, editing, and hiring session musicians. definitely no final tracklist yet!

i was wondering when it makes sense to make a creative project that has a net negative effect on my happiness, here's what i came up with: 1. if doing nothing is worse 2. if the project benefits others 3. if i can figure out how to start enjoying it more 4. if finishing it brings enough happiness

i put together a list of 20 health-related triggers getting in the way of me making stuff: 6 specific to making music, 3 specific to making videos, and 11 that apply to both. now i am going to try harder to find workarounds/solutions so i can do more things.

this is something i think about quite a bit: the Shadow Audience. i think the percentages of people who leave comments on art tend to be in the single digits, if even that. for music, it seems to be well below 1%. we can never truly know the full scope of how our work resonated

i'm not entirely opposed to AI, there are good uses for it, but i find it revolting when i come across something that is so clearly AI generated with little or no human revision. i think what i hate the most about it is that it feels insulting

i'm not 100% sure on this, but it seems like the best kind of culture for art/artists is one where "unsolicited" constructive criticism is the norm

i've been thinking about what makes a song banal and trite, and my current takeaway is, there's no one specific thing you can generally blame for banality. the best heuristic for banality i can think of is, "could this have been written by anyone?" and the further from "yes," the less banal
