My friend and former LBC radio colleague Brian Hayes, passed away in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday mornng. Brian had been battling with increasing frailty for several years now but up until this year was still able to get out and about with a bit of help and a taxi. RIP Brian

Happy 100th birthday to a radio giant Pete Murray, who I had the pleasure of working with at LBC/IRN in the late 80s/early 90s. A pioneer on Luxy, 6.5 Special, the Light Programme, TOTP and R1/2 he was one of the nicest people in the business. And he still has that amazing quiff!

Amid the sadness at the death of my former colleague Howard Hughes it’s appropriate his life was celebrated on radio, the medium he loved. With the fragmentation of the industry I feared his passing may not be recorded on the many stations where he appeared. He didn’t work on @TimesRadio but thanks.

Very sad to hear the news that Howard Hughes has died. A lovely man with a fantastic voice. Very fond memories of him at LBC/IRN in the 80s and 90s. We spoke a lot on Facebook more recently and it's come as a real shock. RIP Howard.

I helped train Howard Hughes when he joined Radio City (Liverpool) and later worked with him at IRN. He was a natural broadcaster who truly loved radio. When he read a bulletin you stopped to listen. Clear and authoritative, but also warm and accessible. Modern-day newsreaders take note. RIP Howie.
