In 1996, Scream hit theaters and instantly became one of the most beloved modern horror films of its time. Known for its quick wit and meta approach to horror, Scream perfectly straddles the line between horror and comedy.

This is the The Rezeau-Van Pelt family Cemetery in Staten Island’s Historic District. It was first established in the 1780s. The very unique fence around the plot is a replica of the original, which was built in the mid 1800s. Along the fence you can see the hourglasses adorned with wings.

A lot of these stones are over 170 years old. Many of the wood stones have not survived. Many of the metal headstones were also stolen over the years and used for scrap metal. It was originally established in 1841 after the land was bought from the Meserole Farm.

Did you know that there is a film that stars Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson? The Terror from 1963 is an indie horror movie that is based on the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. A portion of the film was also directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

Bell, Book, and Candle tells the story of Gillian Holroyd, a witch who runs an art store in Greenwich Village (a dream come true.) When her new neighbor catches her eye, she uses her cat to cast a spell on the man. More:

These are issues of the longest running Paranormal Magazine. Founded in 1948, Fate Magazine covers UFO and alien encounters, cryptids and mythology, of course hauntings and ghost stories, accounts of mediumship or psychic abilities, the metaphysical, and a plethora of strange or unexplained events.

This is New York City's Little Red Lighthouse. It sits at the base of the George Washington Bridge. In the 1800s a red pole was placed here, to warn ships of this dangerous section of The Hudson River called Jeffrey's Hook.

The earliest version of John Milton’s Paradise Lost was published in 1667. The poem consists of over 10,500 lines of text. Paradise Lost tells the story of the fall of humanity.

This is the Saint George Church Cemetery in Astoria, Queens, New York. Most of the over 80 burials here date back to the 1800s and early 1900s. Many of the gravesites belong to the prominent Blackwell family from New York City’s history.

On April 21st, 1865 The Lincoln Special left Washington D.C. The train, carrying Lincoln’s coffin and a coffin containing the body of his son Willie, was headed to Springfield, Illinois. About 300 people accompanied the procession. But that's just the beginning:

This grand Mausoleum was the site of lavish parties in the 1800s. This is the Niblo Mausoleum in Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery. Constructed for William Niblo, the owner of Niblo’s Garden, a pleasure theater from the mid 1800s in NYC.

This is the Acworth Cemetery in New Hampshire, which dates back to 1846. Though some of the gravestones seem to pre-date that official founding. It’s a quaint New England cemetery, nestled along woods and walking trails. Making it a great stop during a day of hiking and exploring.

This is the Churchyard of St. Andrew’s Church on Staten Island. The church was first established in 1708, making it 314 years old. Several members of congress and naval captains are buried here, along with members of notable Staten Island families.

Welcome to one of the most haunted places in Connecticut. Paranormal researchers and visitors have heard strange voices, knocking noises and had overwhelmingly bad feelings on the property. This is Boothe Memorial Park, also the oldest homestead in the country (because of the foundation).

This is the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion in Norwalk, Connecticut. It was built over four years, starting in 1864. It initially belonged to LeGrand Lockwood; after his passing and some financial losses that prevented his family from inheriting the estate, the mansion next belonged to Charles D. Mathews.

Night of the Living Dead is such a pinnacle zombie movie. The story centers around a group of people, trying to survive a zombie apocalypse, from a farmhouse. The film by George A. Romero was released in 1968, about 30 years after the first Hollywood Zombie movie.

These instructional guides on hypnotism date back to the early 1900s. They reference mesmerism and spiritualism as their guiding force. Beyond their incredible aesthetic, they outline in very specific (and dense) detail how to successfully hypnotize a willing participant.

In 1962 Carnival of Souls was released to audiences. It was not an immediate hit, but has evolved into a cult classic. The film stars Candace Hilligoss as Mary Henry. More here:

This is the Manhattan Bridge, which opened in 1909, after 9 years of construction. The bridge connects lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. This is the first suspension bridge to use a Warren Truss. It’s a beautiful bridge that sits very close to the Brooklyn Bridge.

What is the ultimate summer horror movie? Jaws? Friday the 13th? Something else?

Moravian Cemetery is both the oldest and largest still active cemetery on Staten Island in New York City. It was first established in 1740, just two years before nearby St. Andrew’s Churchyard. It spans over 113 acres of land and is home to many notable burials, including The Vanderbuilt Family.

McCurdy was an American Outlaw, but that’s not why he’s famous. After his death, his corpse went on to live in infamy.

This isn’t just any ferry, this is one of the longest running ferry routes in the United States. You can take a ferry between Connecticut and Long Island.

This is the Transfăgărășan road in Romania, that crosses the Carpathian Mountains. It was built as a military road in the 1970s. Driving over it was so terrifying and so fun.

In 1837, residents of a London neighborhood started to report strange encounters and incidents with a mysterious and terrifying man. Spring-Heeled Jack was a folk figure that scared locals. Some thought he was a demonic, fire breathing non-human entity.

This is Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. The first thing you probably notice about this cemetery is that all of the gravestones are made of metal. This is because originally, it was meant to even the playing field between classes so that all stones looked uniform.

This is Pine Island Cemetery in Norwalk, Connecticut dating back to 1708. It was previously known as Over River Burying Ground. Right off the bat, this was one of the most well-cared-for historic cemeteries I’ve seen.
