Incredible thermal evening @ Staffs Wildlife Trust Cuckoo Bank last night, targeting Jack Snipe for DNA before they leave. 18 Jack Snipe +2 local c and 1 r 13 Skylark + 1r 5 Meadow Pipit 2 Woodcock 1 Fieldfare Probably more than double the amount of Jacks present. #meep

Just a bit of standing water in an arable field can attract excellent wading birds, a visit to North Shrops saw us catch Jack snipe 3 Woodcock 1 Skylark 2 There were good numbers of Common & Jacks present, together with 3 Teal in a splash no bigger than an estate car! #thermalbirding #birdringing

In Aug 2022 we created these scrapes in Worcestershire yesterday we saw the benefits, with Great White, Cattle and Little Egret all present, together with Common and 15 Jack snipe. We ringed 3 Jacks. Brilliant to see them mature, even better a very pleased farmer Jake #birdringing #thermalbirding

Blackbird recovery: one of the team have re-trapped a Male Blackbird on 09/01/2025 in North Staffs, adding colour ring AAJ, however this bird was originally ringed in their garden on 20/01/2018, making him 8 years old. The oldest @btobirds.bsky.social record is 15 years 2 months & 5 days.

Thermal Survey in Evesham last night by @EdJBetteridge produced 2 Grey Partridge, 18 Skylark inc 6 retraps, 1 Fieldfare, 1 Woodcock, 1 Song Thrush and an unexpected Mallard. Not sure who was more surprised. @tj-focus.bsky.social @thermal4birding.bsky.social
