In Parliament, I raised the urgent issue that too many young people in Blackpool needing SEND support are being sent miles away from home when we should be providing that care right here in our town. I’ve now secured a meeting with the new SEND Minister to push this forward.

I was pleased to reaffirm my support for WASPI Campaign's women in Parliament this week. 1950s-born women have waited long enough for justice. Ahead of December’s High Court hearing, I urge Ministers to deliver fair compensation to all those affected.

One of the strongest parts of my Beyond the Prom tour was working with Enveco, our local environmental team. We spotted problems from fly tipping to dog fouling and overgrown weeds and they cleared them. 🧹

I’ve long said that Blackpool has the answers to its own problems and when MPs from the Health and Social Care Committee came to Blackpool this summer, what they found were perhaps answers to the whole country’s problems – at least when it comes to the first 1,000 days of life.

I recently visit to Rosscon Training – a fantastic community organisation in Claremont, helping to change the lives of young people in our town. I had the chance to sit down with Charlotte who, at just 15, spoke about the challenges she faced before joining and how she has turned her life around.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed that every state primary school in England will have a library by the end of this Parliament. Labour will provide libraries to the 1,700 schools currently without one. The funding comes from £132.5 million unlocked from Dormant Assets. 📚

New figures show the number of people claiming PIP has risen to 3.8 million – with Lancashire seeing some of the highest rates linked to mental health conditions such as anxiety, autism and psychosis. In Blackpool alone, 6,300 people rely on PIP for psychiatric disorders. Read more here:

As the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill enters Committee stage, I welcome this landmark legislation – a transformative opportunity for my home county of Lancashire to gain greater autonomy, boost economic growth and strengthen public services.

The Hillsborough Law makes honesty and accountability the rule for every public servant. It puts a legal duty of candour in place – no more cover-ups, no more excuses. Those who mislead the public or refuse to cooperate with investigations will face criminal sanctions.

As the new school year begins, I’m reflecting on the incredible schools I’ve had the privilege of visiting across Blackpool South over the last academic year. Meeting teachers, dedicated classroom staff, school leaders and the young people themselves is truly one of the best parts of being your MP.

Phase 3 of the Million Hours Fund is now open – a £19 million investment from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport and The National Lottery Community Fund to give young people more positive things to do, especially in areas facing higher levels of anti-social behaviour.

Today marks VJ Day – Victory over Japan Day – a time to remember the moment that finally brought the Second World War to an end in 1945.

Last week, my constituency office and I supported many people across Blackpool South. We acted swiftly on a safeguarding concern that required an immediate response and addressed a licensing enforcement case involving an empty property with a severe pest infestation.

Since Labour came into power, interest rates have been cut five times in a row – a real boost for families and businesses across the country.

I’m proud to be named a semi-finalist in the 8th SME4LABOUR Excellence Awards, alongside so many dedicated Labour champions. It’s an honour to have my work supporting small and medium-sized businesses in our community recognised in this way. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy.
