So the #NHLJets just went 6-2-2 in the last 10 games. Pretty solid record, right? In that time they went from T-31st and 11 points out of a playoff spot… …to 29th and 8 points out of a playoff spot. Shows how hard it is to make up ground. 30 games left.

Another boffo example of “Bingo Bango Bongo” from the #NHLJets top line, which is once again the reunited trio of Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor and Gabe Vilardi. That’s 2 goals/6 points for them tonight. And then a nice net-front drive by Cole Koepke makes it 3-1 Winnipeg.

Mark Scheifele’s decision to shave the moustache immediately pays off as he gives the #NHLJets a 1-0 lead in New Jersey. Team leading 26th of the year just 93 seconds into the game. Great passing play with Kyle Connor and Alex Iafallo.

#NHLJets fall 5-1 to Detroit. They now have just 1 win in the past 5 games (1-2-2) and face a daunting 4-game road trip: NJ, TB, FLA, DAL. 20-24-7 overall. 31 games left. 8 points out final WC spot (for now) That should put a fork in any playoff thoughts this group had.

4-1 Detroit. Alex DeBrincat with the empty-netter. And that's quickly followed by Marco Kasper beating Connor Hellebuyck on a 2-on-1 rush with 1:17 left. 5-1 Detroit. Ugly ugly stuff.

"Do something" one #NHLJets fan screams out towards the home team in a mostly quiet, sold-out building. "Lets Go Red Wings" chants quickly develop. Yep, it's that kinda night. That kinda season, really.

3-1 Detroit. That wouldn't have counted had Marco Kasper touched it, but he actually missed -- so Lucas Raymond rightfully gets credit for it.

A bouncing puck and a mad scramble in front of the #NHLJets net ends up in the tying goal by JT Compher. 1-1, 4:10 left in the 2nd period. Comes just as a Detroit power play had expired. Andrew Copp with the lone assist.

Go to the net and good things happen. Cole Koepke makes it 1-0 #NHLJets, sweeping in a rebound off a Logan Stanley point shot. I continue to be baffled why Koepke has ever been a healthy scratch this year. Stanley and Barron the helpers.

Great read and feed by #NHLJets D Elias Salomonsson, who intercepts a puck in the neutral zone, gets in the rush and sets up Vlad Namestnikov for a scoring chance.

A very optional #NHLJets practice underway. Eric Comrie and six skaters — Logan Stanley, Elias Salomonsson, Morgan Barron, Cole Koepke, Gus Nyquist and Tanner Pearson — are on the ice. Detroit in town Saturday night to close out the homestand.

Free hockey here at Canada Life Centre. #NHLJets bank another point, but they really could use the second. Same with Florida. Both teams are, at this moment, 7 points below the playoff line, so somebody is moving within 5, the other 6.

And now Mark Scheifele with a glorious chance, as the #NHLJets are really come on here.

At stake tonight: An #NHLJets win would put them within 5 points of the final Western Conference playoff spot. They would move to 13th in the West, ahead of Calgary, St, Louis and Vancouver.

The #NHLJets have 12 shots on goal over their last 3 periods at Canada Life Centre. (3rd vs St. Louis, 1st and 2nd vs Florida) One of them was into an empty net, resulting in their only goal. Winnipeg also hasn't scored an even strength goal in 8 periods. Tough way to live.

A crowd of 14,106 here at Canada Life Centre. Hopefully the popcorn has been tasty. The on-ice "action," not so much.

At long last, a goal. Sam Bennett rips a shot past Connor Hellebuyck to make it 1-0 Florida with 1:11 left in the 2nd. Matthew Tkachuk with the assist -- his first point of the season, in this his second game. Icing and lost faceoff burns the #NHLJets.

I remember when Paul Maurice once referred to a wide-open, all gas, no breaks game between his #NHLJets and Toronto as a "free for all of fecal matter." Tonight's tilt between his Panthers and Winnipeg is not that.

That was definitely a period of hockey we just witnessed here at Canada Life Centre. Shots 5-5 through 20 minutes between what should be two desperate teams currently below the playoff line.
