Kids have sometimes gotten irritated with me when I’ve refused to do round-robin or popcorn reading, but I think that’s because those approaches are all that they’ve known. They’ve begged before to do this, but they also would like to eat cookies and cake all day, too.

Snow is in the forecast, so I’m using some Christmas gift cards to make sure that I have enough reading material. One of my students gave me peppermint hot chocolate which will be perfect for a snowy reading day.

I get a lot of questions about how to be a writer. My answer: If you write, you’re a writer. You don’t need to be published to say that. If you want to be a *published* writer, the key is persistence. I became a writer in fourth grade; I wasn’t published till my mid-30s. Keep at it, friends.

People. Advice here. Even if you think you are not photogenic, let your family take pictures because when you are gone they will be sad that there aren't enough photos of you.

Today, a student that I tutor after school read her first words. Being a part of her literacy journey reader is such a privilege and a joy.

Santa visited our pre-K class this morning. When my second graders caught a glimpse, they were so excited, but my fifth graders were even more excited! They begged to go down the hall to look for Santa!

I’ve been looking through some of the photos I snapped during last night’s @UVAMensHoops game. Again, thank you @UVABasketball for providing such great tickets! My husband and I loved being so close to the action! We appreciate our student-athletes and their work to balance academics & basketball!

I introduced a group of fifth graders to syllabication and I’ve never had students so excited to figure out multisyllabic words! They were able to decode words that they would have normally given up on. We also had linked to vocabulary with many of the words (compartment, parcel) today. #EduSky

During a lesson this morning, I showed students something that I’d learned at a conference and they were curious when I said that. It seemed to surprise them that I went to conferences and workshops to learn. I want my students to know that I am continually learning how to support them. #edusky

I’ve used FigJam with both of my LETRS cohorts this year and it’s been great to be able to use sections. I thought I was going to miss Jamboard, but FigJam is such a fabulous tool that I can’t imagine not using it.

While I like a good Flair pen, Ink Joy pens are pretty awesome!
