When I read the subtitle, I had to pick up this book. Definitely the most entertaining guide to punctuation I've come across!

Who knew that the lyricism of car mechanics could so perfectly reflect grief and the longing to belong? Beautifully written novel in verse. I couldn't put this one down.

I may not finish an entire novel in the month of November, but I've written 10,000 words of my new MG project. I think that calls for a celebratory slice of cherry pie.

Interesting. I wonder if it has to do with the extra time it takes to manually write something down. More time to process the info perhaps?

I usually have a loose outline when I start a story with a few scenes that I'm envisioning and some details about the main characters. As new ideas pop up (usually in the middle of the night!) I jot them down to add to my outline. I use it as a guide; nothing's ever set in stone.

The Girl and the Robot has one of the most powerful and gut-wrenching opening chapters I've read in MG in a while. Love the family dynamics and strong sense of community. And of course, the robots! 🤖

Equal parts querying and writing must be the writer's equivalent of living a balanced life. Trying hard to maintain that balance.

I just discovered the very sweet Bear and Bird series by Jarvis. It reminds me of Elephant and Piggie but for more advanced early readers. Beautiful illustrations too!

After being bullied for her smarts AGAIN, Cal goes home to cry in her dad's failed teleporter. But then it actually works. Kinda. She's going to need all her brain power, a little toxic dihydrogen monoxide, and a few new friends if she ever wants to get back home.

I wrote a MG story where the beauty of nature lays in stark contrast to the closed-off, bare-boned world of my MC. I think it helps add tension and motivates my MC to take action in order to change her circumstances.

I enjoy writing queries but pitches are either very easy or very difficult. If it's the latter, I worry that means I don't have a good enough grasp of what I'm writing or there's something inherently wrong with my manuscript.

Growing up, I loved James Howe's Bunnicula. I think that series was what inspired me to become a writer. My first stories as a child were about my own dog and cat and the mysteries they solved together. And yes, I still write MG.

I try to never see a project as wasted writing. I may come back to it later and make improvements, or at the very least, the practice itself made me a stronger writer.
