That’s a wrap on our summer outdoor concerts! Couldn’t ask for a better location today! We had two back-to-back shows so I’m pretty exhausted 😮‍💨 but I’m really glad to be done with outdoor gigs. Also glad to finally get paid after two and a half months of outdoor gigs! 🤑

I woke up today with blurred vision in one eye and it was weird and concerning, so I cancelled lessons so I could go to the eye doctor. She did all the tests, and everything was fine. The blurriness has pretty much gone but I still have some weird pain/irritation.

One of my student’s mom emailed me earlier this week that her husband had just tested positive for COVID, but was isolating and no one else in the family was positive. She wanted to know if I still wanted to do an in-person lesson and I went back and forth in my head about it.

I had a dream about my grandparents, and I don’t remember the last time I did. I don’t usually remember a lot of my dreams though. It was really just reminding me of how they supported me through college and how they were proud of me. It was a nice reminder. I really miss them.

Most of my public education in the 80s and 90s was spent being forced to pray in school and having teachers openly talking about Christianity. They also prayed before football games in high school.

One of my 7th grade bassoon students during their lesson today very excitedly told me they had something new to show me. I thought they had new reeds, but no. It was a plastic mustache they clipped onto their bocal 😂🥸 ahh middle school bassoonists, never ever change.

Living in the suburbs is wild. I live in a modest townhouse surrounded by forest preserves and business parks on a major 4 lane road, but then a mile away there’s a private airstrip with multi-million dollar McMansions that have hangars built onto their houses.

I had to get blood drawn for my yearly physical so I went this morning because I have the morning off today. I had to fast so I just threw on whatever and went out with greasy bed head (it’s also my wash day) because it’s tech week, I’m exhausted and hungry and Idgaf. It’s just the lab people.

I’m exhausted from an (almost) full week of teaching after my lighter summer schedule. But the joy! The excitement! My students truly are amazing humans who are going to be doing wonderful things! Seeing kids grow over 4+ years is the best part of my job. Also my new freshman babies are so excited!

Had my yearly physical. I was the only person in the (very crowded) waiting room masking and not a single staff member was masked, including my doctor for the first time since COVID. That was disappointing 🫤. She also asked if I was masked bc I’m sick & I said “nope, just don’t want to get sick” 🫠

My MIL, a lifetime republican and t***p voter is now distraught that he wants to send the national guard to Chicago and what he is doing to all the immigrants. She’s upset that she’s getting what she has voted for her whole life and doesn’t even understand the disconnect.
