I’ve been thinking about this all day. Presumably the young people (or a very high proportion of them) who apparently can’t be allowed access to these books, even mediated by a trained librarian, do still have access to whatever TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or Reddit serve up to them at other times.

The reason children need EHCPs for going to secondary school is that most secondaries are far less inclusive than primaries, and create academic & disciplinary environments that are wholly inappropriate for the needs of many children with SEN. Fix that, then we can talk about EHCPs. #r4today

This is indeed all sorts of thought-provoking. How depressing would this experience be for someone who really did want to try and help themselves feel more confident and/or boost their CV with genuine skills and training? #careers

Back into the #PatchConf this afternoon - with a second panel of experts firstly, looking at understanding and recognition of trauma in the courts, and then straight into understanding and the true depth of trauma-responsiveness in the rest of the state system too!

Moving around the tables now hearing about the case studies discussed before the break - a real opportunity to reflect and share learning among all the wondrous parents and lived experience experts alongside the amazing professionals #PatchConf

Fiona: what is predictable, is preventable. Think from the position of we *know* this child is hurt, is hurting - and so we can think about how to look forward to support them in dealing with their hurt - and we should do that up properly, right from the earliest moment. #PatchConf

Fiona: We need to look more at the unique circumstances of each child's experiences ... and then really think about the unique needs they have, and properly care plan for what they individually need to make sense of their experience, to thrive, to be the best they can be. #PatchConf

Fiona: Detailed, painful accounts of our children's harm are written ahead of their move into permanent families; where is the similar level of attention paid to how they will be supported with that and helped with "recovery" (accepting the limitations of that world) into the future. #PatchConf

Fiona: we have to acknowledge, validate, hold and be curious about the pain and the lasting injury. #PatchConf

Fiona challenging head on the idea that being in permanence "solves" everything that has gone before. There is lasting injury. As a system there needs to be response, support, recognition of lasting injury - and seek to help our children thrive with acceptance of that lasting injury. #PatchConf
