This feels very much like moving into a new home, surrounded by packing boxes and no idea which one’s got the kettle in. But rather nice and reassuring to see a few familiar faces and voices of reason are already here.

As for who I am, I’m a forty-something freelance football commentator. Primarily I work across the wonderful Bundesliga and the EFL, dipping into several other world feeds. Been at it for a quarter of a century. I was never political before Brexit. Since, well, there’s no real choice not to be.

Gary #Lineker has been a really great host of MOTD. Des Lynam was almost impossible to follow, and nobody could have done it better, or made the role more his own. Ask plenty of commentators their proudest moment, and it’ll have been, like mine, Lineker saying their name on #MOTD.
