Today is a day of project applications/budgets. But the trauma from yesterday remains. The burns on the woman’s face, the bite marks on her shoulders & back, and the bruises from head to toe on the left hand side of her body. 😢 We don’t need reminders of why we do what we do. But we get them anyway.

Three terrible cases of violence in less than 24 hours. Providing a safe place in terrible times. Providing care and support. Getting medical help. Working out next steps. The psychical damage is awful to see. The psychological damage is worse.

Horrendous news from Tajikistan where a 15 year old boy has died from his injuries after his father dragged him behind his car for 2km and videoed it as punishment for stealing 600 somoni / $60. The photos and videos are too distressing to post here. Beyond heartbreaking 💔

Today we helped a woman fleeing violence get medical help for her son. He was seen by two doctors, we bought medicine and have started his recovery journey. If you donate to us, you not only help vulnerable women but you get the chance to win a signed copy of Red Sands by @edentravels.bsky.social

When you donate to us you feed the women & children who stay with us, pay the salaries of our professional & caring staff, for transport around the city, for medicine needed. But most importantly you allow us to provide safety and care to women who in some cases have never felt this in their life.

3 new women in our shelter in the last 3 days. One child with serious trauma who is biting and scratching everyone, can’t speak at 4.5 years old. His Mum has had a terrible life, can’t speak Tajik, has no money making it very hard to get help. Now they are safe with us.

7am, 1 woman left our shelter to return home to her family, where her father-in-law is violent. She's 6 mths pregnant, has a little girl; wants to keep her family together. She knows who in her family can speak to her father in law to ask him to stop. She knows where we are, that we will protect her

Monday morning. 11 women have come to our centre for legal advice. Our lawyer is having a good lunch to recharge energy for the afternoon!

When the police are in the office you know it’s serious. This time is no exception. Serious injuries from violence. But also we are pleased. Pleased to know that our links with police enable women to find help in their moment of need.

We can lock all our gates and doors to keep women safe from physical violence. But the emotional toll is huge. In the night we have to call the paramedics to provide emergency care to a woman in emotional distress. We should never underestimate the impact of domestic violence.

One woman and her young son travelled over 8 hours on snowy mountain roads to get to our shelter. So important to have safe spaces for women facing violence, and that women, including those in remote mountainous communities, know about our services.

Unfortunately this has cropped up in discussions when thinking about future funding sources for preventing violence against women.

Today was another day running round after ‘duty bearers’ to remove bureaucratic obstacles and get a violent and dangerous man with mental health issues into secure care. Not achieved yet, but tomorrow is another day. And the woman is currently safe with us.

A human rights based approach includes holding 'duty bearers' to account. And this forms a large part of our work. We cooperate with the authorities to make sure they fulfilling their responsibilities in a way that actually protects women and keeps them safe. The importance of civil society.

Although violence against women is under reported to law enforcement authorities, we support 7 women a month on average to report their case of violence to the police or prosecutors. Every woman who comes to us for help is informed of her legal rights and her options.

One of the things I love about our shelter is hearing the chattering and singing of little kids, happy and playing. And knowing that their mum is safe with us and getting the support she needs. Being pregnant and having young children is a high risk time for violence against women. #vaw

Sustainable results. With the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women we worked in Chorbogh village, Istaravshan for 3 yrs. Now a woman in crisis is staying in our shelter who is from this village. We can use our strong relationships with the village authorities @ leaders to help this woman #vaw

Sustainable results. From 2021 -2024 we worked with police in Khujand, Gafurov and Istarvshan with support from Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. Last night a police officer brought a suicidal woman to our shelter in the middle of the night. He had attended our seminars, and said how helpful it was
