Came across an etymology: the verb âwaxâ meaning âgrow,â as in âwaxing moonâ and âwicked men⊠are become great, and waxen richâ (Jer. 5:26-27), comes from the proto-Indo-European root âaug,â to increase, which also gives us âaugmentâ and âauxiliary.â
Beeswax is unrelated, from the PIE root âwokso.â
