I, Medusa by Ayana Gray, 4.25 stars. This was a fun one. I love that media has been embracing the actual myths surrounding Medusa instead of just making her a killing machine. The backstory was lovely and I really fell in love with Meddy.

Dark is When the Devil Comes by Daisy Pearce, 3.75 stars. I got this as an ARC. It’s not my usual type of read but it was very engaging. Hazel had me so stressed in the first part and Cathy & Suzie had be in the second half. If you want a thriller, look for this in April!

Bromatasy by Máire Roche, 3.75 stars. I got this as an ARC and it was interesting. It is a romantasy-quest story but the romance was lacking. Also the marketing is leaning into the parody but the book couldn’t fully commit. I did enjoy the characters though.

Never Whistle at Night Anthology, 3.75. This was an interesting anthology. I enjoyed many of the stories but there were just so many. I would love it was broke off into 2 volumes but also, wouldn’t mind if they just make a whole new book 2.

A Demon-Haunted Land by Monica Black, 3.75 stars. This was an interesting listen. Some of the information is very reminiscent of the wellness culture we are currently in. But I’m sure that’s fine 🫣

Hemlock and Silver by T. Kingfisher, 4.25 stars. This was an interesting one. I enjoyed the intrigue of it all but the ending was a little muddled. Still excited to read more of this authors back work! Also, love the cat representation as I also have the same cat.

2025 recap: this year I decided to take it slow. Still read daily but not crunch through books. My goal was 75 and I blew past it anyway. I’m still shocked about the horror category, who knew!?

The Man of Many Fathers by Roy Wood Jr, 4.5 stars. I listened to the audiobook which made it very funny and enjoyable. I did not grow up with Roy and The Daily Show, I met him on Have I Got News For You so this was a fascinating read. Recommend if you need a laugh!

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher, 5 stars. This book was bananas! I devoured it in a day. It’s creepy, it’s scary, it was so good. A hole to nowhere? Sentient trees? Fuck me up fam.

SNAFU by Ed Helms, 4 stars. This was an ear book, so I listened to it while doing Christmas. It was so interesting. Ed has a great delivery which shouldn’t be surprising. Might check out the podcast with the same name now.

When I Was Death by Alexis Henderson, 4 stars. I got this as an ARC and it is a study in grief. Roslyn is traveling the world doing work for Death and trying to come to terms with her sister’s death. Look for it in March!

The Princess Bride by William Goldman, 3.75 stars. Of course, I knew the story and enjoyed that some of the movie dialogue was started here but I found the pacing to be off. One chapter was almost 100 pages! I did enjoy the meta-commentary though so that was fun.

A Witch’s Guide to Magical Thinking by Sangu Mandanna, 4.5 stars. This is the second cozy witchy book from Sangu and it was also just as cute. I loved the inn and all its lodgers and how organically the love story grew. And the finale was *chef kiss*

As You Wish by Cary Elwes, 5 stars. I had not heard of this book despite The Princess Bride being one of my favorite movies of all time. Cary brought it up in light of Rob Reiner’s murder and listening to it was such a gem. This really was a passion project and I’m so glad it was made.

Not Good for Maidens by Tori Bovalino, 4 stars. This was very good. Exploring goblin lore is new to me so all the tricks and twists were fun. The ending is kind of open-ended though but I suppose so are all goblin markets. Come buy, come buy!

The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow, 5 stars. Omg I knew at 42% that this story would end me and here I sit, ended. The love story across time was perfection. I love them so much and the villain was a real piece of work, you love to hate them!

Network Effect by Martha Wells, 4 stars. This was the first Murderbot novel which I was not expecting but I loved. The story had enough room to grow, the mystery was interesting, and like Murderbot…I had an emotion. Very excited for the new friends we made & can’t wait for new adventures.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab, 3.5 stars. I love vampire stories, they’re always chaotic and fun and this was fun. And the ladies were messy! What fell apart for me was it was too dang long. Alas, you win some, you lose some.

Hollow by Taylor Grothe, 4.75 stars. WHAT. This book was so wild. I loved every minute of it. A camping trip gone wrong with poor Cassie trying to make sense of everything. Very good autism representation, def recommend listening to it.

Even Though I Knew The End by C.L. Polk, 4.25 stars. This is a very fun novella. It’s a noir, which I really enjoyed and the story between heaven, hell, angels, demons, and what we do for love was damn near perfect.

A Harvest of Furies by Hayden Casey, 4.25 stars. This was a Greek retelling of The Oresteia which I was unfamiliar with but that’s okay. The writing is fantastic and the was the characters were unhinged made you unhinged and not to be outdone, but the house is also unhinged.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, 4.5 stars. This book is beautiful. The writing is amazing as always. It’s a book-in-a-book situation and both stories are top tier. I, of course cried but you know what? I’m once again still thinking about the damn dog.

A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher, 4 stars. This was an interesting book. One where you’re flooded with dread for your main character the whole time bc the baddie is that bad. But the conclusion was satisfying!

I, in the shadows by Tori Bovalino, 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley for this arc. This book was beautiful. The friendship between Drew and Liam was thoughtful and messy as all teens are. I liked the conclusion and the hope that comes at the end with the remaining, living characters.

The Sacred Space Between by Kalie Reid, 4.5 stars. I read this an ARC and absolutely loved it. The magic system is so unique and ya girl loves to see a corrupt church have a revolution. Maeve and Jude were also so complex and creative, the writing is amazing.

I Want to Burn This Place Down by Maris Kreizman, 3 stars. I heard this author on Your Wrong About and was intrigued. The premise is “breaking out of the liberal myths” and while she has realized how much the game is rigged, she never goes far enough to actually want to burn anything down.

The House Where Death Lives anthology, 4 stars. This is my second anthology of the spooky season and imo, it was much creepier. Some of the stories really stuck with me and I liked the format of moving from the attic to the grounds of a spooky house.

My Throat an Open Grave by Tori Bovalino, 4.5 stars. This book was 😨 amazing. Pitched as a Labyrinth retelling but age-appropriate Jareth and ooh it did not miss. I loved Leah’s growth and bravery through it all. And Tori def knows how to write a man to swoon over.

Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells, 3.5 stars. While I am still enjoying Murderbot’s journey, this story was a little hard to follow and I didn’t like the ending, it felt abrupt but it does seem like Murderbot might finally be heading to his favorite humans so fingers crossed!
