Sometimes it’s worth it

Chronic pain is a car alarm that never turns off. At some point you just stop reacting. Not because it got better. Because you ran out of reactions. And everyone around you sees that as proof you're fine. You're not fine, you're just exhausted in a way that doesn't show on your face anymore.

Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you scream, sometimes you cry. Chronic illness has all the emotions.

The most exhausting part of autoimmune disease isn't the symptoms. It's explaining why there are so many of them. Brain fog AND joint pain AND gut issues AND skin stuff. You're not unlucky, you're not catastrophizing, you're not making it up.

Drank the water. took the meds. got 8 hours. avoided gluten, stress, and apparently joy. Still flaring. cool cool cool. your body is not broken because it flared. it's sick. those are different things. You deserve grace for that, especially from yourself.

Just on my way to pick up another prescription that will either cure me, cause raging side effects, or do nothing at all.
