I saw a bunch of great films in March, but two stood out! The first was Days of Heaven, whose incredible cinematography left me completely in awe, and the second was Tarkovsky’s Stalker, a dreamlike allegory about human desire that became an instant all-time favorite of mine.

Considering how big a Nintendo fan I am, I have a surprisingly spotty history with Star Fox. I remember playing the SNES game at a neighbor’s place, and later, Star Fox 64 became one of my go-to multiplayer titles. Other entries passed me by, though I did pick up Star Fox 64 3D.

It’s been more than four months since I finished 1000xResist, but the game still lives rent-free in my head. I often catch myself scrolling through my screenshots, marveling at the impeccable art direction as I think about my favorite moments in the story.

If Denis Villeneuve sticks the landing, his Dune saga has a very good shot at becoming my favorite film trilogy of all time, though with the third Spider-Verse movie coming out in 2027, another contender is already on the horizon!

Super Metroid🎮

I play through Super Metroid at least once a year, and it manages to entrance me every single time. A big reason why I keep coming back to the game is its fantastic music. Now that the soundtrack is available on Nintendo Music, I’ll definitely use the app a lot more!

After seeing Wart in the latest trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I felt an urge to replay Super Mario Bros. 2. As I wasn’t familiar with the Game Boy Advance remake, I went with that version. I’ve only cleared the first world, but man, the voice acting makes me question my decision.

It looks like the main draws for solo players like me are the addition of Rosalina, 74 training courses, a new power-up, double badges, and battles against the Koopalings. Since the base game is fairly easy, I was personally hoping for a new world with more challenging levels.

If I had to pick the March release I’m most looking forward to, it’d be Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. I won’t get around to it any time soon as I only just bought Silent Hill f a few days ago and still need to play that, but I’m excited to eventually give it a go.

I watched Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy with some Discord friends last month. All three films are excellent, but Before Sunset resonated with me the most. I also want to give a shout-out to Park Chan-wook's No Other Choice, which I found absolutely hilarious.

No matter which Xenoblade Chronicles game I’m playing, the Nopon never fail to make me laugh. They’re by far my favorite nonhuman species in the RPG genre. It’s honestly baffling that Nopon merchandise is virtually nonexistent. I’d love a Nendoroid or at least an amiibo!

I know 2026 is still young, but I think my favorite game announcement of the year is already locked in. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse looks absolutely fantastic! I especially love the emphasis on the whip, both as a weapon and as a way to move through the world.

I’m glad Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is doing well. While I have issues with the game, I’d hate for it to be the last entry in the series. If the team at Retro Studios can follow its own vision from the start instead of finishing someone else’s, I’m sure the sequel will be better.

Now that publishers have more size options for Nintendo Switch 2 game cards, I’m much more interested in learning about new third-party releases. I understand that there will always be games that are too large, even for 64GB cards, but that’s something I can live with.

One of my favorite moments in Xenoblade Chronicles X is getting the license to pilot Skells. Finally stepping into the cockpit of one of the mechs that have towered over the player since the start of the game feels incredibly satisfying.

I’m pretty much a retired Fire Emblem Heroes player at this point and haven’t participated in any of the recent events, so learning that Tsubasa has won Choose Your Legends: Round 10 comes as a big surprise. I’m proud of the Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE fans for rallying behind her!

Just because the GameCube version of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes might join the Nintendo Classics library doesn’t mean a remaster is off the table. After all, the ad also mentions Pikmin 2, which already got a Nintendo Switch port. That said, we probably shouldn’t hold our breath.

Nintendo’s breakdown of my most-played games over the past nine years gives a pretty clear picture of my tastes as a player. That Hollow Knight is the only Metroidvania listed might come as a surprise, but that’s because most games in the genre are relatively short.

One thing that never fails to put a smile on my face in Xenoblade Chronicles X is the banter between Lin and Tatsu. Their constant back-and-forth adds a lot of charm and levity to the game.

The game I want to spend the most time with this January is Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. The Wii U original is one of my favorite RPGs, but its cliffhanger ending left me wanting more. I hope the new content wraps up the story in a more satisfying way.

By my standards, I watched very few anime series and films in 2025. My highlight of the year was getting to experience Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc on the big screen. I find it very exciting that more and more anime movies are receiving theatrical releases in the West.

Despite the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, I landed on Mario Kart World as my game of the year for 2025. The Free Roam mode feels tailor-made for me. Even after over 100 hours, I keep booting it up to do P Switch missions, hunt for Peach Medallions, or enjoy the great music.
