I like this a lot a lot. Pipistrello was a fantastic game that got overlooked, presumably because it's in a niche genre (modernly) and not by a name brand studio. Mina got far better, and it's good to see the spotlight spread to Pipistrello as well.

I'm sick of video game protagonists respecting walls and doors. If I have a big ass axe, a simple wooden barrier shouldn't be ever able to stop me. That door, can in fact, be opened from both sides.

Game thats just a series of doors that can't be opened for increasely convoluted reasons.

I fucking love Blighttown. Dark, damp, and chaotic with monsters crawling up and down the ladders around you while some random nerd shoots darts at you from 300 yards away. It's intimidating to navigate until you realize you can just drop to the bottom. It's great.

Going through Nioh's bestiary and it's great. Lets you take a close look at all the models. This game is general is pretty cozy to me. It's nice to take my time with and spend time in.

Nintendo did the Sports series so dirty. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort were both special titles, and they turned around and ran the series into the ground on the Wii U. It feels like they're still picking up from that low bar. Switch Sports Resort looks decent at best, which sucks.

Hard for me to give much of a fuck about something releasing in 2027 to be honest. Long time to wait, so much can happen. Might as well not exist to me until it's here.

Taking my sweet, sweet time with Nioh. Don't really care to finish it because I find a lot of the enemies and encounter designs annoying, so I've been spamming the Warrior of the West fight with different weapons to get a handle on them. Great fight.

Nioh exists on a spectrum between Dark Souls and Beyblade.

Late to the Rayman announcement, but I dig the visual style personally; being in 3D makes for more dynamic possibilities with camera movement. It's baffling to me they didn't do something truly new, though. So much effort put into something many people - including me - have played before.

Hitman Classic Trilogy raises some questions for me. First off, why only the first three? It's four classic Hitman games, and Blood Money is excluded. There has to be a seperate plan for that one, right?

The N series has been evolving in it's own niche for so long it feels like a microgenre.

I don't think people realize how good we have it when it comes to video games in the present era. Mass availability of consumer technology has allowed them to flourish. There's so much quality stuff out there, and modern emulation and compatibility tools make them even more accessible.

Between Nine Sols and Magenta Horizon, I'm feasting on great 2D action games.

Magenta Horizon is a good-ass videogame. I'm nearing the halfway mark and feel like I'm still only starting to get a grasp on the system. Need to play with the projectile mechanics more.

I played through more of Magical Princess and got an ending and yeah. My thoughts hold. Game is pretty fucking boring and a lesser clone of Volcano Princess. Tempted to go back to VP so I can draw a fuller comparison.

It's funny to me how most non-linear games will only give a handful of key bosses to find and defeat, but Nine Sols goes nine. There's nine key bosses. Saddle up nerd.

When is someone going to make a raising sim where your daughter has to abuse stimulants to make it through her third consecutive 50 hour work week while also dealing with college, where she has an shitty, overbearing professor wrecking her mental health in a key course? Do I have to do it myself?

Magical Princess is kinda meh to me because it seems to lack the AP fuckery that makes games of it's ilk compelling; Volcano Princess and especially Consume Me did a lot better at that. It's also highly derivative of VP to the point of feeling like a copy in many aspects.

Didn't play much of this one; gameplay didn't click for me. It's missing a certain je ne sais quoi that underlies gameplay I enjoy. Should still try more anyway.

* Obscure Games Thread For anyone stumbling across this, I'll use this to highlight obscure games I've greatly enjoyed and recommend. All inclusions are purely subjective, both as to relative obscurity and personal preference.

I only learned about Bad Bitch Blasters because Steam recommended it to me and I'm mad it slipped under my radar for a while. Need to find better discoverability for obscure games. But that's hard to balance with taste.

The amount of good and fun games out there is truly staggering. Completely put off of doomerism. Golden age for anyone seeking out unique experiences on the fringes of this bloated industry.

Mimic Logic gives Tactical Nexus.

The Big Catch: Tackle Box is so good. Feels like a Gamecube or Wii game ripped from an alternate timeline. Am curious to see how the negative feedback is responded to in the full game, as the core of it is very strong.

Minor Key Games' games are peak jank imo. Played a good bit of Eldritch and am now playing Slayer Shock, which is bad and very schlocky and I'm enjoying it anyway.

Nintendo Life reviewed pretty much every WiiWare game and it's kind of ridiculous. They aren't half-assed either; even garbage games get quite a bit of text. Doesn't cover JP releases though, sadly.

There's a full anti-grav racing series that's been locked on Nintendo consoles dating back to the Wii and I heard about it for the first time yesterday. All of them are good apparently!
