Movie Nirvana last night at The Vista Theatre! Since Tarantino bought the place, the schedule is his whim and he decided on a second run for his KILL BILL double feature-as one feature cut made for Cannes in 2011. And it can't be seen anywhere else in the world. Reason #430 to love L.A.

Summer's over when we say it is! The Mammoth Lakes area is known for skiing yet I've never been there in the winter. The lakes, mountains, and resort town make for an awesome trip outside of ski season. This was my third time and from the Greeter Deer to the hot spring sunset, it didn't disappoint!

The Hollywood Bowl closed out its season with Chicago and Christopher Cross and - FIREWORKS! I've never set out to see Chicago but now I've seen them as much as U2 and more than Springsteen and Van Halen! They just keep being around and, really, they keep kicking ass, too. Great show.

Another CicLAVia in the books! This one shut down streets in historic South Central & Watts. Got out early and there were stretches where we owned the place. As ever, there was art, community, and good times. Join up for the next one, it's Oct. 12th where they'll be shutting down DOWNTOWN for us!

Last night's Fall Festival in Burbank closed out the Starlight Bowl season for the year. It was a great run in various venues while the Bowl itself gets repaired from the January storms. The School of Rock was there - there's hope for the future when young people love rock 'n' roll...

Many National Monuments in the U.S. aren't what you'd think a monument is - a large structure commemorating someone or something. Many are protected areas of land like Cabrillo National Monument, which is 143 acres or gorgeous coastline and incredible views around the San Diego bay. #LetsJustGo

Jazz at LACMA was awesome once again! This time I did the full picnic experience on the lawn. The community vibe is real and the Kyle Poole band was great. And, again, you can't beat the price (free!). Three more Fridays at 6PM, then they wrap their season! Also, finally got a pic at Urban Light!

Another CAL101 must-do CA experience - The USS Midway Museum. Docked permanently in San Diego, you can stand on the platform of an aircraft carrier. Our visit to Chicano Park crossed off another spot on the CAL101 list of must-do California experiences. These incredible murals have been popping up since the '70s ranging from Chicano pride to full-on protest It's a National Historic Landmark. Go in the daytime. The colors are amazing! #LetsJustGo

HHN is about to jump off for 2025. There's too little live entertainment, everyone that could be at a show is in a line and there's no way you can do everything before closing. It's like Comic-Con - great, but it's really about the people 'cause you're in line so damn long they better be cool...!

Here's a first-time thing we did in San Diego - Tiki Time Bay Tours. Susan likes tiki anything so we had the drinks, the beautiful water, the sea lions (including this one doing his best Ariel) and more. It was a fun add-on to the "Weird Al" show on the makeshift mini-honeymoon...! #LetsJustGo

I discovered an AWESOME Friday night tradition - Jazz at LACMA (free!). In Italy, I loved the piazzas, people eating, shopping, talking, people were just OUT. Back here, it felt like everyone was just on their phones. This experience really reminded me of the come-together vibe of the piazza.

This is the "Botanical Gardens" part of The Huntington Library, Art Museum & Botanical Gardens. There's a Desert Garden, Rose Garden, Australian Garden, and more but the Japanese and Chinese Gardens (largest outside of China!) were so stunning, I really only took pics of them on my second trip here.

At a recent trip to The Huntington Art Museum, I finally got to lay eyes on what's arguably the most famous painting in Los Angeles - Thomas Gainsborough's THE BLUE BOY...he's...judging me, right? The museum is free for locals in L.A. the first Thursday of every month (you'll need a reservation).

Reset! Susan has had a lot of rehearsals and shows lately (poor thing) and I...also have...things...going on, but mainly I wanted to hang out with Susan so we did a reset day at the spot where we had one of our early dates - Paradise Cove! Great beach + great food = great day! #LetsJustGo

There's a second Last Bookstore! So new you can't even tag the location, it's in North Hollywood. Also, it's not the SECOND TO LAST Bookstore. That would, technically, now be the first...last...bookstore. You know what I mean, but the vibe is great and they have movies on physical media!

Merry Christmas! 25 years in LA, I've never been to Herb Alpert's club, Vibrato Grill & Jazz. Susan cashed in a gift card I got her for Christmas on a Paul-friendly night - Yacht Rock by Harbor Party! The Academy Museum coughed up another gem last night - L.A. CONFIDENTIAL. It's one of those movies that just nails EVERYTHING - story, acting, place/time re-creation, suspense, action, script and marvelous execution by the great Curtis Hanson. If it's been a minute, don't let it be two.

I knew SHUCKED was a comedy about corn, but I didn't know it was pretty much a full-on AIRPLANE!/NAKED GUN-style joke onslaught about down-home life on the farm. So. Many. Jokes. Throw in some great voices, poignant songs, and a really sweet finale and you've got yourself a show. #LetsJustGo

Part two of my trip to the Reagan Library & Museum included a stop to see their current exhibit - The DEAD SEA SCROLLS. Yes - THE ONES. Pretty crazy archaeological find, but I keep hearing the B-52's in my head... Kate & Cindy: "It's the Dead Sea Scrolllllllls" Fred: DEAD! SEA! SCROLLS!

My sister and I went to The Reagan Library. 25 years in L.A. and I never made it out there until now. Last year, Susan and I got to The Nixon Library and I found it fascinating. A lot going on out at Ron's place, too. Air Force One is what I was most looking forward to and it was impressive as hell.

Here's another reminder that you should be attending movie screenings at the great Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Yesterday was packed for the fantastic, too-often-slept-on CHILDREN OF MEN with excellent context-setting pre-show speakers and state-of-the-art picture and sound. Anyway, hyphens.

When in doubt as to where we are, we're biking because, Susan. A few days ago we biked to the Studio City Farmer's Market. I recommend it highly! Great coffee, baked goods, raspberries, horchata, and we left with a bag of avocados because, Los Angeles. #LetsJustGo

Blackout dates have lifted on my Disney pass so I took in a day at the park. It was outstanding! The magnitude, spectacle, and ADDED VALUE at the park puts all the others to shame. 60% of the time, Disney makes magic every time. First time seeing The Flag Retreat ceremony. It was extraordinary.

Great night in Burbank last night for the Parks & Rec Centennial Bash! All the Parks & Rec branches were repped, plus food and music with The Platinum Groove and legendary Spazmatics! Next: Johnny Carson Park, 8/23, outdoor screening of FOOTLOOSE. I'll be hosting that, too, 'cause it's a movie.

Last Christmas we kayaked Huntington Beach Harbor to see the lights. Never kayaked in the day so we changed that last weekend because, beach. Like the "Just Married" signs? AREN'T WE ADORABLE?!? A lot of families on the beach so got out on the damn water as quickly as possible...! #LetsJustGo

FINALLY went to Cole's in downtown LA, originators of the French Dip...or are they (see Wikipedia for the unresolved story!)? It took Cole's closing after 117 years for me to drag my ass there but the place has been MOBBED and they're claiming to stay open until at least mid-Sept. Damn fine date!

Burbank Parks and Recreation has been doing its thing for ONE HUNDRED YEARS! So, next Saturday will be a once-in-a-century party in McCambridge Park, and it’s free! I will be your host and your closers are the mighty SPAZMATICS, and if you’ve never seen them, they are not to be missed!
