The green witch in me visited yesterday! Latest project: horseradish tincture. You know how good this stuff is for sinus issues? This obliterated two colds for me over the past few years. At least...the unadulterated root did. So effective I wanted the tincture on hand if/when it happens again.

Tonight's #tiki libation: the Jungle Bird. Can't see the drink, but this is one of my favorite glasses. Dark rum, pineapple juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and the outlier: Campari. It works so well. Simple and one of my favorite cocktails.

Nope, not watching the bee tonight. I'm being seen at urgent care and getting an antibiotic for cellulitis. Let it be known that I am NOT a fan either of the spell-off used to separate the champion from the runner-up nor of the words required for a good bee nowadays. Harumph. Get off my lawn.

I eat a lot too quickly. I feel like I swallowed a brick and it ain't moving. I take a capsule of goldenseal root (bc it's on hand...its relative Oregon grape root would be environmentally preferable). That brick dissolves QUICKLY and I feel so much better. Three cheers for botanical medicine.

Can something as simple as glass tealight candle holders impart power? Because I got some tonight for my itty bitty tealight candles, and I now feel all witchy and stuff...like I can now cast effective spells for the benefit of our nation about...someone we all know. I have, in the past, contemplated the idea of somehow making money off of that most inexhaustible of resources: human stupidity. Churlish? Perhaps. This morning, I've altered my thoughts to how I could make money off this administration's cruelty somehow. That, too, seems fairly inexhaustible.

I found this adorable little pup sleeping on my pillows tonight before I got to bed. No lie, I was contemplating sleeping on the couch because how could I consider disturbing such amazing peace? (Happy spoiler: we agreed to a peaceful move, and he's sleeping peacefully again.)

Guilty conscience tonight over removing a tree on my street strip tomorrow that is healthy but hosting a crazy amount of wasps every summer. Spraying does nothing and I don't want anyone stung. At least I'm replacing it with another tree. RIP happy oak tree. Hope wasps can find another local bar.

On second listen to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, immediately after the first: experience is definitely enhanced with libations. Maybe even some herbal jazz refreshment as well, but I am leery to combine the two. Anyhow...I'm impressed with the innovation and resourcefulness here.

For the first time since 2002, when I first got Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and quickly put it away, I'm gonna give this album in its entirety a fair go. Really did not get it back then. One song in, and my take is that I just had not done enough living (and hard drinking) yet. This is promising.

Today I learned that Prince wrote "I Feel For You." Never thought about that before. I just knew it as an amazing Chaka Khan song. His own version is fun too. I love that Prince continues to amaze me with his brilliance, years after he left us and decades after his heyday. He's unstoppable.

Thanks to the wonders of technology, I was able to stream Female Trouble from the Internet Archive tonight. For free. It's absolutely disgusting. Awful. Almost as gross as Pink Flamingos. I feel depraved watching such repugnant, debased, immoral crap. I can't recommend it.* *enough

I wish to apologize to all the people who had such high hopes and expectations for me. I was put on a pedestal that was too high, didn't fit. I also wish to apologize and forevermore hide away from those who had to see me stumble and fall so awkwardly. A waste of time it was to deal with me.

Today's serendipitous discovery: a Netflix show I'd never have thought of. Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories. A Japanese serial, 25 or so minutes per show. It's delightful. Each story has its beginning in a guess what that opens at guess when. Fun, thoughtful stories, all with food links. Recommended.

I'm not sure when, but sometime within the last ten years (probably during DT I), I concluded that this country would rather be a white supremacist autocracy than a true representative democracy. Yesterday's SCOTUS ruling cemented that realization. I am SO disappointed in America.

So I've been doing morning pages for the past month or so. Waking and writing three pages, or roughly 750 words. About anything, including stream of nonsense (and that happens a lot). I, uh, feel like I'm ready to move to the next phase of writing, whatever that is. Asking the skyers for guidance.

Loving the action of goldenseal on the ol' gut after a big meal. Not taking it all the time, but I'm (re)discovering what a great herb this is in moderation.

On today's afternoon walk: more sweet-smelling plumerias, Rachmaninoff's grandiose 3rd piano concerto (about which more later), and this captivating tree. Such contrast between the frost-silver tree bark and the indigo flowers, as vivid as they are tiny. Curious to know what tree this is.

Listened to Tchaikovsky's Pathetique Symphony yesterday for the first time. I have never heard the timpani employed so dramatically in ANY other piece of music as in that first movement. Unbelievably tense section that had me on the edge of my seat. Masterful.

Last night, I learned about this. I have to try it. My health may suffer. I may get hives. I may have a bad night of sleep. My brain may endure pea soup fog. My guts may twist in agony. I may be couch-locked for a day. And yet...this calls me.

Today's adventure in listening to something new to me: Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings in C Major. Pretty on first listen. One of Stanley Tucci's desert island discs...he weeps whenever he hears it. So I figure I should listen to it more regularly to really get into it.

Not so depressing read as much as a read that just rings true and makes sense. The term that really hits for me and DT's presidency is "norms." Norms that have been utterly destroyed. Once that happens, it's a tremendously hard road to rebuild them. Will take generations to do so.
