🔥 K8s v1.34 adds topology-aware hints: PreferSameNode and PreferSameZone. PreferSameNode routes to a backend on the same node (near-zero latency); PreferSameZone prefers the same AZ (often drops ~1–2ms to <0.1ms). If no local pod exists, PreferSameNode falls back to other nodes (then zones).
