This seems rather standard. Nothing new except scale. I still wonder about all the noise and emails about pruning the accepted papers. And that is not explained in the post. 😕

Same, I reviewed for AAAI and did not find "AI review" useful ICLR'25 did exactly the same as your idea, but more than 70% of the reviews that received the feedback were not updated Auditing human reviews with LM should be helpful, but it should come with a more rigorous enforcement and evaluation

I just reviewed for AAAI and I wasn't sold on the AI reviewer. It provides a decent breadth but it's a bit shallow. What I think would be superior is an LLM that audits the reviewer's actual review, attempts to identify weak arguments by the reviewer, and tries to get the reviewer to correct that.

I see your point about potential reduction in the rate of submission growth Unless the number of quality (and available) reviewers increases proportionally to the number of submissions, we will face the same problem From the perspective, the acceleration by LM may make the situation even worse

That objective is covered by the Findings track idea (accepted, but no presentation in main conference) like NLP conferences do However, simply accepting more papers won't help us slow down and may even further increase submission volume

I coined a new verb on my slack channel. Suttonize: verb. Removing dedicated processing that require careful tuning and replacing it with simpler but more intensive computation. Ex: "We should suttonize this: just remove the encoder and concat the sources together with a few self-attention layers".

- Cap submissions, say 10 papers per author: I feel it's still too many though - Introduce Findings track to ML and CV communities: I saw ICCV'25 has Findings workshop, great first-step - Bring reviewer mentorship program back: We should educate more reviewers e.g., ICLR 2022 What else?

As usual, my personal opinion ML/CV/NLP communities should "slow down" While controlling an acceptance rate just for the venue's "prestigiousness" sounds nonsense to me e.g.,
#NeurIPS2025
, we (re-)submit too many papers for the number of quality reviewers Potential solutions👇

I bet it could simply be for the fact that organizing these conferences is __extremely__ long and painful. It's planned very much in advance and you surely don't want to improvise more than strictly necessary. However the lack of communication surely makes it look like American imperialism.

As an SAC for

Pre-registering my opinion (before my paper's reviews are released) that the AAAI AI reviews are essentially worthless. It's not that they are necessarily bad, but they just have no substance to them. They are at best a long summary with some superficial points pointed out.
