The piano guy tonight went out of his way to learn Tears for Fears and play it for me after learning that it was my recently passed father’s favourite band. I know it’s not cool to say anything nice about Disney but damnit the effort they go to on these cruises is impeccable.

Is this game going to dig into the fact that the Spartans were photo-fascists that Hitler greatly admired, were active eugenicists, and just generally absolutely nasty monsters. Or is it going to be “tough Spartan so cool games are art no really”.

Wait what. If you don’t speak the language of jazz you’re screwed when listening to a jazz performance.

Today was a day in Pago Pago, American Samoa. I love, love, love, love this country so much. It is quite possibly the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life.

Have landed in Pago Pago for the day. Really looking forward to this as I’ve never been to American Samoa before.

American events now play both America The Beautiful and the American anthem before events? Lmao. The cruise is playing the Super Bowl and since my Dad’s favourite team is in it I figured I should watch. Was fun before the patriotism started being rammed down my throat.

Tonight was fireworks at sea. One of the big selling points for Disney Cruises. It did not disappoint.

Today was Fiji day. Took a bus tour of Suva, to a bunch of interesting farmers markets and lookouts and then the Fiji national museum. Suva is chaotic, loud, and the bustling main hub of the South Pacific. Been to Fiji several times but never much in Suva. Was interesting.

Also went on the most awesome French wine and cheese tasting and discovered a new favourite red. This is a *bloody good* drop.

New Caledonia really is a pretty little island (also not so little).

By pure coincidence one of my favourite Australian dancers is the dance teachers and performers on the Disney Cruise lol. This was a treat to watch and I am absolutely amazed they were even able to do it. They’re dancing on *carpet*. That’s like trying to play football in the ocean.

Having absolutely massive oversized potential cocktails while listening to a piano man. This cruise is off to a spectacular start.

Resident Evil 1 was a homage and parody of B-grade horror. It was very funny. Deliberately so.

Why does the game industry - not the players, but the people that make the games - have so little respect for the history of games? Is it because corporations drill into them that all that matters is the consumer and “best practice” game design? I replayed Morrowind last year. It’s the best one.

Anyway. If any of you are in town and want to treat yourselves to something spectacular, track this down. It’s down an alley with literally nothing else around. The door isn’t even open. All part of the show.

Staying in Sydney for the night before the cruise. Found this down-a-back-alley cocktail bar. This is right up there with the best food and drink I have ever had. This is *amazing*.

One of the all time greatest lies of capitalism is to suggest that people are lazy and won’t work without a whip at their back. Almost no one wants to go through life without doing something. What people object to is the kind of meaningless work that gets them a wage and their CEO a yacht.

Going on a 16 day Disney cruise on Monday. On the one hand I have been looking forward to this for 18 months and after last week and my dad passing I desperately need a retreat like this. On the other hand the cruise ends in Honolulu and… well. Come find me if I disappear, friends.

In some utterly shitty news, my dad passed away from massively aggressive cancer last week, and if that wasn’t bad enough, he and mum were booked on a once-in-a-lifetime cruise to Antarctica with Ponant next week that was $50,000, and the cruise line refused to in any way accommodate the situation.

Goodbye dad. Thank you for being the role model that shaped me. You were selflessly dedicated to your family. I know you were proud of all your sons. I will continue to strive to live according to the values you gave me. I love you. I miss you. Fuck cancer.

Excuse the swear but fuck cancer. I'll be more sporadic here for a while.

I’m just really confused about who Lara Croft is meant to be at this point in time because Sophie Turner would have been pretty close to my #1 casting pick for the role before she was even announced.

Streaming services are terrible for artists and this has always been the end game of them. And now it’s too late to push back because they have an effective monopoly over the infrastructure behind how cultural industries are delivered. If only people listened to me a decade ago.

I love the aesthetics of dance studios. They are places where I can give my brain a break and focus on something much more important. Moving to music ^_^

My editor has started playing with the footage and the results are already gorgeous. My little documentary will have 20 music videos from national and international champions, and then all the stories about what makes dancers tick.

I love how BlueSky has like 40.1 million users and I am basically the only Dancesport account on the whole site. That makes me the king of the dance floor, right? Here’s some more Dancesport championship dancing to celebrate.

Tim Sweeney: "PC Gamer lied about me. What I actually said is exactly what PC Gamer said I said." I've worked in PR and Communications enough to know this guy would be just the worst, most obnoxious client. He would refuse to listen and then blame them for the media reporting his "blunders".

I hate to engage with these lists but there are just some times you have to let the world know you're mad, for the sake of your conscience. Putting Parramatta ahead of literally all of Japan has made me mad. I mean, Parramatta has Red Rooster and Japan doesn't, so that's a plus, but still.

I love Cici’s dancing so much. She’s got such a wonderful rhythm through her body and a natural, engaging charisma that makes it impossible to miss her on the floor. Having her dance for my documentary was such a privilege. Looking forward to sharing her full routines.

I kinda feel bad for the camera guy I roped into working on my documentary project. It’s one thing to ask dancers to go full pelt competition dancing standard. That’s what they do. It’s quite another to tell a camera guy to keep up with them. Poor guy was absolutely dead after the full day shoot.

Major achievement! Broke through 80,000 in Mario Bros, finally. This is right up there with my most played arcade game ever lol.
