I think it would be fair to say this mixed-doubles tournament has traded legitimacy for mainstream popularity. I've seen more people than ever before talking about mixed-dubs but it does feel questionable to call it an actual major... Regardless, I've had a great time with it!

After watching Jannik Sinner win his match in 59 minutes yesterday, I can't wait to watch Carlos Alcaraz cruise through the first set, drop the second from a break up, and win the third set breaker in a 3 and a half hour epic later on today. π

Winning your first tournament in front of a home crowd at 18 is absolutely fucking insane. Didn't think she had a chance and will happily admit that I was a fucking idiot for it! Victoria Mboko! π₯

What I most liked about that match was that it properly felt like an 18 year old trying to make a huge breakthrough into the final of a huge event. Messy, nervy, all over the place, and, now and then, unbelievable ball-striking. π₯

Gauff really desperately needs to sort out those service yips because it's fine every now and then but it's getting to the point where you can absolutely predict when it's going to happen and that's a really bad sign.

There's something very appealing about the absolute messiness of Gauff's game. It's desperate, scrappy, an absolute shitshow at times. And yet, it usually finds a way. It's... life.

Tried to stay up for Raducanu's match last night but found myself falling asleep beforehand. From the highlights, it just looked like a demolition job from Anisimova and that's super impressive after that Wimbledon final disappointment.

Stefanos Tsitsipas crashed out in the first round of the Toronto Masters yesterday, marking yet another early round tournament loss for him this year. Coincidentally, I wrote this piece on his decision to work with his father again just the day before.

Stefanos Tsitsipas taking back his father as his coach makes sense, even if itβs probably not beneficial for his career.

What I like about Raducanu's form right now is she's not panicking when down breaks of serve. Seems to have enough confidence and focus to know she'll have an opportunity to turn it around.

Emma Raducanu with Mark Petchey as her coach is such a dream team. You can see she's much more at ease on the court. Not in a hugely dramatic way but in just the subtle moments on the court. Between points. Ends of matches. Way more focused.

Raducanu's story just makes it so easy to get back on the hype train whenever she strings a few wins together because, like, who the fuck knows when she might make it all work again but I know I want to be there to see it happen when it does!
