loading . . . The Special Occasion It was just another lazy Sunday morning. The kids were enjoying their extended sleep hours curled up in their blankets in the rare Mumbai winters. Indecipherable low noises emanated from some news channel the television was set to. None bothered to listen or switch it off. Warmed up after our heavenly ginger masala chai and breakfast, A and I were sitting on the couch taking in the peace till chores couldn’t be delayed any further. While we both drained our phone batteries over random stuff, every few minutes I went, **_“Suno na..”_** and blabbed irrelevant things. Nothing special.
The thing is, women might struggle to hit the 10k step count every day but our limitless word count has no trouble breaking records. One needs to hear us talk and also endure our complaining if they didn’t hear us out the first time. It’s a no-win situation. However, at that moment I promise I could’ve asked for a unicorn for my birthday, suggested relocating to Antarctica, or sigh yet again at how dishy Ranveer Singh looked in _Dhurandhar_ and A’s stoic reply would be _‘Hmmm’_. Nothing less and certainly nothing more, just _‘Hmmm’_.
If you think that would deter or annoy me, you’re sadly mistaken. Despite his obvious disinterest I persisted, this time about me needing a facial. My senses deliberated over this extremely significant issue with the skin voting Yay and the eyes backing it. While the ears and nose debated, the wayward tongue wagged and brazenly took our discussion to A. Precisely, _**“What’s the need right now? Facial waste ho jayega. Abhi koi special occasion nahi hai.”**_ Imagine, this of all things! *Headpalm _*_
Trust A to pay attention when it isn’t required. Steeling his eyes away from silly couple reels and food videos, A retorted, **_“What do you mean special occasion? Pampering yourself is more important than being groomed for others, right? If you feel you need a facial, get one.”_** and went back to his phone. My mind instantly shot all the senses down and mulled over the simplicity of this deep thought. Men are such modest, uncomplicated beings. Truly, I didn’t need to wait for anything (although now I recall Valentine’s Day is coming up!). 😉
Both kids finally appeared on earth albeit drowsy even as A grumbled why he can’t sleep late like them. Some ribtickling and plenty of laughs later I got busy in the kitchen. Paneer biryani, boondi raita and Kesar falooda was my Sunday lunch menu and needed much prep work. Mohd Rafi’s beautiful songs played in the background but A’s words kept coming back to me. As if on cue, A appeared next to me and slipping his arm around my waist said sweetly, **_“You are the special occasion. Go whenever you like. Don’t think so much.”_**
Pretty sure that day my face had a happy-and-blessed glow that no facial could give! 🙂
