Today 29th September is Michaelmas, the Feast of St Michael and All Angels. Saint Michael the Archangel is a powerful archangel, a warrior against evil, a champion of justice, often depicted with a sword or spear, battling the Devil in the form of a dragon.

Visited Burford near Tenbury Wells yesterday to enjoy the garden centre and cafe so took the opportunity to visit the church again to see Elizabeth of Lancaster, wife of Sir John Cornwall who owned the manor. The church was atmospheric and Elizabeth looked as serene as ever.

Thank you to so many who remembered this day with the Mortimers in Pembridge last year, and reminded me how much they had enjoyed the event. So did I! 😊❤️

From the Archives. Speaking about all things Mortimer in Pembridge Church last year, the church were Roger Mortimer and Johane de Geneville were married in September 1301. A lovely day and a splendid audience, some in medieval garb, who were pleased to buy A Court of Betrayal..

Celebrating 24th September the Feast Day of our Lady of Walsingham, a place of worship and one of the great pilgrimage centes. All that remains of the original Priory at Walsingham, destroyed in the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The Shrine was re-established in 1897.

On this day 23rd September 1459 the Battle of Blore Heath, the first in the WOR. The Earl of Salisbury marching south to join up with the Duke of York at Ludlow faced and defeated the Lancastrians, killing Lord Audley. The Audley Cross that marks the battle is on private land.

#OnThisDay 20th September 1301 the notorious Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March, married Joan de Geneville in the church of St Mary the Virgin in Pembridge. This church was rebuilt on foundations by Roger in the early 1300s. Read all about it in A Court of Betrayal.
