Dungeons & Dragons as it was in March 1975 is the only valid edition; all editions published thereafter are taxonomically not D&D. This edition of D&D included the input of Dave Arneson, who was just as necessary as Gygax to its design and the advent tabletop roleplaying, if not more so (1/).

You can play TTRPGs wrong. If you are deviating from the inked letter of the rule, you are playing it wrong, and should either play a different game that better suits your needs or make your own.
