When it rains like this we know that there will be sewage outflow into the sea. Over this Summer, sewage has flowed into the sea here in Deal for a total of 72hours. Indeed there’s been yet another out flowing of sewage since midnight last night due to the rain.

Our largest water company is in the tender hands of creditors including hedge fund Elliott Management and US private capital firm Apollo Global Management. Needless to say they don’t care about our water supply just the profit they can make. Privatisation was an act of political dogma, it failed.

Call to fix water company exec pay at ten times the level of their lowest-earning workers. Need focus on total remuneration, not just pay. Exec pay should be subject to a binding vote by employees, and customers (wherever possible). Democratise big business to curb inequalities and abuses.

In Deal our water quality has been downgraded over the last 5 yrs to ‘Poor’ The huge spikes in levels Ecoli and Intestinal Enterococci in Summers gone by can only be due to ‘dry’ sewage releases. SW deny this. Yet we suspect the sewage system isn’t fit for all the new housing that has been built.
