Just a man who drinks too much whisky.
A pair of German whiskies from a long weekend in Mannheim. I should have paid for checked luggage just so I could have brought back a full bottle or 2 of that Black Forest triple wood π€€

Dram 4 from
#AnnandaleWhisky
: Man O'Swords STR Ex-Red Wine Cask. Have I broken my nose? I'm getting a gentle sweet peat funk, and not much else. But my wife is getting pineapple and tropical fruit, which I think is the sweetness my broken nose caught π€£

Dram 3 from
#AnnandaleWhisky
: Man O'Swords Ex-Olorosso Sherry Cask. First thing on the nose is medicinal peat, seaweed and salt. Beneath the peat is the same sweet fruitiness from the previous drams. And maybe something like vanilla toffee.

Dram 2 from
#AnnandaleWhisky
: Man O'Words Double-Oaked Ex-Bourbon Cask. The nose is big and sweet. Lots of dried fruit and vanilla ice cream. Brandy butter in there too.

Dram 1 from
#AnnandaleWhisky
: Man O'Words Fresh Ex-Bourbon Cask. Nose straight out of the bottle was butter and straw. With a few minutes in the glass it opens into something fresher with apples and bright spices.

Good weather. Good whisky. PX cask at 56.7% and it goes down very easy. The nose is just Christmas cake. The palate has loads of sweet tropical fruits, with a dried fruit finish that dissolves into oak (maybe a bit too woody at the very end).

Woke up to a light dusting of snow in Cambridgeshire, which meant our cat could get out in the white stuff for the first time. She likes hunting her own paw prints πΎ

The advent calendar had something unexpected today - a lost distillery and an impressive age statement. I do like a grain, so this will be interesting.

4 hit me with feints to start. There's some good wood smoke once the glass has cleared. Proper bonfire. Some white pepper there too.

3 nose: Smelt like something I want from Christmas after resting - sweet and smoky. But agitating it gives more funk and dirty peat.

First

starts with lots of sweetness and orchard fruit on the nose. Smells peppery too. Something more savoury when you go back to it. Palate brings something funky. More savoury. Big alcohol kick.

Wasn't sure about this one from SMWS - very hot, even with plenty of water. But put it in a high ball and it really comes to life. It's very dry and coconutty, like eating the flesh of a brown coconut.
