The month of November is busy for us here at the Indian Law Resource Center. Our team will be working in several countries: presenting, learning, and sharing with communities and spaces across the Americas: Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and the US. Tune in for more updates on these visits.

ILRC staff attorney, Kari Guajajara, was invited by the JUPAU Indigenous Association to visit the Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau Indigenous Territory. Kari engaged in discussions on the right to territory of the Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau (Jupaú), Amondawa, Oro Win, Cabixi, and isolated Indigenous peoples.

Our colleague, Ermeto Tuesta, is partnering with the AIDESEP Women's Program team to help launch a new training program for Indigenous women, “Indigenous Amazonian Women Protecting Forests and Traditional Knowledge for Territorial Governance" which will be led by Teresita Antazu.

Congratulations to Indigenous women leaders in Peru! Last week, Amazonian Indigenous women leaders graduated from a course with ORPIO's Women's Program. We’re proud to stand with our partners at ORPIO in supporting this important work to empower Indigenous women leaders and Indigenous human rights.

The Montana Free Press series, "The Shelter Gap", covers the housing crisis in Indian Country. Caroline LaPorte, ILRC staff attorney was interviewed by Nora Mabie, and shared insights on the vital connection between housing, safety, and culture.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Montana's longest-serving congressman, Pat Williams. Indian Law Resource Center was founded shortly before Williams began his term in Congress, where he demonstrated his allyship by fighting for effective change in our community.

Registration for the NIWRC 2025 Women Are Sacred Conference is open! Indian Law Resource Center staff members will be among other advocates, survivors, and tribal community members as they gather in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 28-31.

The Center is continuing our fellowship program with three exceptional law students who have joined our team at our Helena, MT, and Washington, D.C., offices. The fellows are participating in legal research and writing on major Indian rights issues related to the current ILRC projects. We welcome:

Indian Law Resource Center staff will again join our partners, ORPIO, in Iquitos for a Training Program for Indigenous women leaders next week. Caroline LaPorte (ILRC Staff Attorney) and Ermetto Tuesta (ILRC Field Evaluation Coordinator) will be on-site from June 2nd to 4th to facilitate workshops.
