from across the lake, you watch a pack of wolves stop for a drink before they disappear back into the woods

you walk in the woods and admire the fungi

you put on your welly boots to go splash through the puddles

you befriend the crows nesting in your yard

you take to the mountains

on the cluttered and dusty shelves of your grandfather's shed, you find an immaculate model ship inside of a green-glass bottle

you swim in the sea until it turns from blue to golden as the sun begins to set

you weave a crown of daisies to get lost in your curls

you help a goose and her goslings safely cross the towpath

you trace the coastline on a yellowing map and wonder where they got the names for each island and inlet and strait

you sleep in an extra hour and spend the morning with a crossword puzzle

you tie a sky blue ribbon around the base of your sun hat

you follow the river to the sparkling sea

you reread a letter received long ago

you spoon some honey into your evening cup of tea

you run your hand along the water as your love rows you toward the shore

you turn a lonely button into a brooch

you help your grandfather paint a new windmill for his model train village

you toss a ball for your little dog in the rain

you walk by the bakery before it opens and enjoy the warm scent of cinnamon

you walk until the coastline runs out

you carve a little whistle using wood from the branch of a walnut tree

you stitch a line of lace onto the hem of a plain skirt

you watch a heron hunt for dinner in the rocks along the water

you find a new favourite line in an old favourite novel

you mail a letter to your faraway pen pal

moonlight peers through your window

you admire the neat v-shape that the geese form as they fly overhead

you arrive home and admire the seashells you collected at the beach

you sit out on the hill and watch the sunset before walking home together in the deepening twilight

you collect a handful of flowers from your garden and arrange them for your mother's table

a slinky black cat greets you on the path to town

you paint a pattern of little flowers all along the garden wall

after a few nights of heavy cloud cover, you step out to see the stars

you sit on the fence and eat your lunch, offering the last nibble of cheese to your dog

a line of ducklings follow their mother across the gentle creek

you study a map in effort to memorize, from north to south, the names of the towns along the coastline

friends and acquaintances in town admire your hand-knit sweater of orange and red

with some prompting from her farmer, the collie that lives next door shows off her impressive herding skills

you teach your love how to tie an anchor hitch knot

you paint your wooden clothes pins all sorts of vibrant colours

you sleep a little later than usual and wake to the sun on your face

the green leaves quiver with the cooling wind and make a checkered shadow on the ground

you lay on the roof of your little cabin and count the stars as they appear

you hike up and up the wooded trails until you reach the remnants of last winter's snow

you watch a line of cormorants bob among the waves
