TTRPG mechanic: When you roll up your character you get a d4, d6, d10, and d12. You assign one each to your hit die, your melee weapons, your ranged weapons, and your spell casting and you're stuck with that for the rest of the game. Levelling just unlocks new ways to use those dice.

I got to meet my little tiny nephew today!! He's been in the hospital for a while so I hadn't been able to do so before now, but he's in my lap and he's warm and snoozy and has many facial expressions.

I helped some kid jump start her car in a parking lot this morning. I felt very dad-core. I seldom lean into societal gender expectations but I was glad to be able to fullfil them today.

Spent the morning gathering fallen sticks in the yard.

I'm coordinating with some of my friends who were laid off alongside me to do a round-robin style yardwork crew where we all work together on someone's yard.

I finally continued my All-Out solo game and it ended in a TPK. It was a very grim ending, getting swarmed by androids in a pitch-black hallway. Not how I expected it to end. I've never experienced a TPK before and now, in one fell swoop, I've been on the GM and the player side of the experience.

My work spent some budget taking us out to an art show this evening. Spending a few hours wandering a hall of real actual human-made, genuine physical ART was, as one of my coworkers remarked, very refreshing in the face of all the AI crap going on. Really fun to talk with the artists.

I'm thinking very sincerely about writing a new mini ttrpg called "Yer Bugs!" about being a bug who will live for one summer and must decide what to do with your brief life in the sun.

I'm reading an article about when to start seedlings indoors in my region and it keeps using language like "8-10 weeks before May." Why the hell would you say it like that???? Just say "late Feb to early March."

It's foggy today because it's so warm. I stopped by the cemetery to take some pictures. It was visibility swirling in places which was pretty amazing to see. These pictures really don't do it any justice.

Does anyone recall an article giving advice for writing horror stories (maybe ttrpgs?) which featured a trifecta of things the characters can accomplish by the end of the story? I think you could pick one or two of the options: - Escape - Understand the horror - Save the innocent Can't find it...

I had to laugh (and also cringe) at a teen I saw at a bus stop who was "smoking" but VERY obviously not actually inhaling the smoke. Instead just pulling a puff into her mouth and then blowing it out. Please kid. If you're trying to look cool, it's not working. Just quit now.

Everyone at home is feeling crummy today, but I rescued a neglected onion and feel good about it. Hopefully I can keep it going until spring and move it into the garden.

Funny moment last night at kids D&D: They raided a tomb in a graveyard, and several skeletons popped out. The party immediately set to work on them with axes and swords. After a little bit one of our youngest members asked "did these skeletons attack us first?" Me: "No" Kid: "....are we being evil?"

Every once in a while I make the mistake of thinking "why don't I draw on the subway more?" Then I get on the subway and it's winter and everything is wet, I'm overburdened with backpack and coat, and there's only one available seat and it has Mystery Liquid on it, and EVERY seat smells like asses.

I've decided that this year I would like to run a minimum of two games a month. I want to end 2026 with at least 25 sessions under my belt. I'm slowly adding more people to my west marches game, and would like to run other stuff, too.
