Updating to the latest Nvidia drivers broke my PC. I'd just get a black screen where I could only see my mouse cursor. It was a pain to rollback the driver in that state. Apparently this is a very common issue and has been going on for months. What's Nvidia doing over there? 😭

GIMP 3.0 is out and they finally fixed the UI scaling! Maybe I can actually comfortably use it now 😂 Let's give it another try. Here's the before/after for me on a 4k monitor:

After 4 years of using Windows for work, I'm going back to a MacBook. Company just ordered a new M4 with practically everything maxed out (except 64gb instead of 128gb). It's ridiculous expensive, especially with the exchange rate. Nearing 5000 USD 😭 Glad I'm not paying for it.

I don't know why the "Show more" / "Read more" links on so many websites are a lie. If you displayed all the content without needing to truncate anything, why are you showing me a "Show more" link that literally does nothing? Not just Twitter, but YouTube does this too.

I made a pretty significant update to sbt-test-shards. It now supports automatic node balancing by taking the test reports #sbt generates and then distributing the tests evenly based on how much time they take. This significantly reduced CI times for us. github.com/reibitto/sbt...

I gave it a chance but I turned off adaptive triggers completely on my PS5. I haven't encountered a game where I felt it actually added to the experience in a positive way. Is there one? Astro's Playroom maybe? I haven't played that yet but I had heard positive things.

It worked! I created a mod for Baldur's Gate 3 so that I can display multiple languages simultaneously. Generally you'd only use it for 2 languages, but 3 works all the same (even if it's overkill... 😅) I mostly do this for language learning, as well as analyzing localizations.

I get the logic behind it but the fact that `dateTime.plusMonths(2)` can yield a different result than `dateTime.plusMonths(1).plusMonths(1)` has bitten us multiple times now 😞

I tried Baldur's Gate 3 in Japanese and it's as I feared... the localization is quite bad. Which is unfortunate as this was a great opportunity to introduce people to CRPGs here. For a game as text-heavy as this one you CANNOT mess it up this bad. It sours the whole experience.

I'm fed up with mock testing. I've reluctantly let it slide when my coworkers use it because of prior usage but I just can't anymore. I'm going to reject any PRs that use mocks from now on. Perhaps heavy-handed but I don't care. I always end up having to deal with it in the end.

I was experimenting with various jdk+gc combinations and here are the results for compiling our 250k+ LOC Scala project. I already knew GraalVM performed the best for this and have been using it for a long time now, but interesting to see the updated results now with jdk21.

Scala folks, can anybody help me out here? Lately sbt has been going out of control with memory usage. It happens seemingly randomly after leaving the sbt interactive shell open for an hour or so. Here it is using 18 gb and a constant 6% cpu. It never drops.

Sometimes I want to look up a word or something when I'm playing a game but not all of them allow me to pause. I added a function that allows me to bind a key/button to pause any game (the foreground app). It works surprisingly well. It hasn't broken any games I've tried it on.

I want to try the multiplayer in Baldur's Gate 3 but I can't find anybody to play it with 😢 But I get it... it would be a big commitment and scheduling alone sounds like a nightmare (especially if you find 4 people to agree to it).

I wish more games made use of FF14's double cross hotbar system for controller. BG3 could really use it. The radial menus are awkward especially when you have like 4 of them side by side. Double cross hotbar gives you 48 quickly accessible buttons (and more if you switch hotbars)

I always dread using gpg. My open source gpg key expired for the first time and I had to fix all that. I didn't even realize what the cause was when CI was failing. Wasn't exactly clear... What a waste of time that was 😑

I know everyone is praising Baldur's Gate 3 right now but I'm strongly considering dropping it after having played it for a few days. My fault for buying it on release, but this has to be the buggiest game I've ever played. I have so many other complaints too.

Despite the praise I'm seeing for Baldur's Gate 3's character creator, I'm not impressed Particularly with the lack of customization of facial features. It's quite bad to be honest. I get it's a technical challenge, but it's pretty important for a game like this.

I rarely ever buy games on release but I might make an exception for Baldur's Gate 3. I never really got into old CRPGs (despite trying a couple of times). The real-time with pause element of them was the main reason. I'm glad BG3 didn't go with that.

I'm known to order pizza abominations and post them here but I'm looking at the menu right now and even I don't think I can do this one. Not today at least. Need to be in the right headspace for it 😅

Using that acronym for Trails in the Sky for extracting a language patch into a temporary folder probably wasn't the best idea. Now it's stuck in my 7-zip history and I don't know how to delete it...
