There is already a lot of jockeying for position with voters ahead of elections that are, in some cases, a couple of years away. The best way to jockey for position? Just do the job well. Solve problems. We shouldn't need to say this.

The government might shut down. Then it does. For a long time. Then it opens. Then it might shut down again. Then it partially shuts down. Then it might reopen on Monday. Or it might not. Seems like the system has some real opportunities for improvement.
