Today I found out that not only do people and businesses have to pay the inflated tariff or duty on imported goods that never had tariffs or duty, the mail courier or shipping company also charges them a processing fee for having to collect that tariff and route it to the US treasury. Ouch!

A teacher at my school is on maternity leave. The substitute who came in to cover her class from first day of school for 8 weeks came in to an empty classroom and took it upon herself to spend her own money to decorate the walls and get some other materials. I don’t think the parents even know.

When Trump45 won the 2016 election, I turned to legal podcasts to understand what the president could and couldn’t do. It made me feel better that lawyers and others were guarding the rule of law. Even though T47 is not constrained by those people anymore, it’s still comforting to know the law.

I know it's frustrating when lawyers point out when something the administration is doing is not legal. But responding with "the law doesn't matter anymore" is really unhelpful and defeatist. Clarifying the law is important because it reminds us not to comply in advance and to resist and take action

My favorite version of this is: respect can mean "acknowledge my humanity" or "recognize my authority". So when someone in power says "If you don't respect me, I won't respect you" they often mean "If you don't recognize my authority, I won't acknowledge your humanity." And oof. That stuck with me.
